Will ministers' housing exemption be erased?
The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) has filed suit to end the housing tax break provided to ministers.
Kevin Theriot, senior counsel with the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF), points out that even the Supreme Court has recognized the contribution of churches and faith-based organizations.
"This is just an attack on an accommodation of religion and is an attempt to marginalize religion in our society," he comments.
The FFRF is arguing that since others are not afforded that accommodation, it represents a government endorsement of religion. But Theriot contends the Constitution has a special protection for religious freedom -- so religion can get special attention.
