House Poised to Rebuke Obama on Libya, Weighs Funding Cutoff
The House is poised to deliver its strongest rebuke yet to President Obama over his handling of the U.S. military intervention in Libya, as the White House pleads for patience in the mission to contain Muammar al-Qaddafi.
The House plans to take up two Libya-related measures Thursday afternoon. One, a bill carrying the force of law, calls for cutting off funding for U.S. operations in Libya. The other, a non-binding resolution, would ask the House to "authorize" the mission.
The latter is not expected to pass. A down vote on authorization would send a clear message to the president that the House disapproves of his handling of the operation. It would follow another vote in the House earlier this month chiding the president for failing to provide a "compelling rationale" in Libya...
