Controversial research to continue
A federal appeals court has waved the flag for the government to continue spending tax dollars on human embryo research while the rest of the appeals process is carried out.
Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) and allied attorneys filed suit against use of tax dollars for embryo research, which involves killing a tiny human being, because it is against the law. U.S. District Chief Judge Royce Lamberth issued an injunction on August 23 that nullified President Obama's executive order and banned the National Institute of Health (NIH) from funding further research on embryos. But the D.C. Court of Appeals lifted that ban September 9 when the U.S. Justice Department asked for a review of the merits.
"The American taxpayers said 15 years ago that public funding cannot be provided for embryonic stem-cell research, and this is a test in the courts [on] whether the rule of law will be upheld or whether taxpayer dollars will continue to be used for research that has proven to be unproductive, unlawful, and unethical," ADF attorney Steve Aden comments about the latest decision...
