Coldwater giving 1st Amendment cold shoulder
A Michigan-based Christian law firm is pursuing a lawsuit against one city on behalf of tea party activists who claim their free-speech rights have been violated.
The Thomas More Law Center (TMLC) has announced it has filed a federal lawsuit against Coldwater, Michigan, on behalf of the Common Sense Patriots of Branch County and two of its members, Barbara Brady and Martin Lepper, who feel the city's recent ban on all signs in a city park violates their constitutional right to free speech.
According to TMLC senior trial counsel Robert Muise, the problem began last July when the city told the Common Sense Patriots that their signs about an upcoming event were "too controversial and too political"...
