Bachmann lauded for domestic drilling stance
Steve Milloy of JunkScience.com agrees with GOP presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann that the U.S. needs to move ahead with more domestic drilling in efforts to make the nation less reliant on foreign energy sources.
Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann has made it clear on her campaign trail this week that she believes the U.S. must drill more for oil and gas in order to become more self-reliant. The Minnesota congresswoman, seeking the GOP nod to challenge President Barack Obama in 2012, told The Associated Press Sunday that America needs to tap into all of its energy resources, including Florida's Everglades and the eastern Gulf of Mexico. Steve Milloy, founder and publisher of JunkScience.com, agrees with her.
"Generally speaking, you can drill in the ocean ... with the [fish] swimming by and it's okay. Why can't it be okay to drill in the everglades?" he wonders.
Bachmann did stress she would want to ensure the drilling would not harm the environment before giving the go-ahead. Milloy points out the technology exists to drill safely, so it only makes sense to go for it...
