Rep. Joe Sestak's allegation that the White House offered him a job to drop out of the Pennsylvania Senate primary race against Arlen Specter is a crime that could lead to the impeachment of President Obama, Rep. Darrell Issa said.

But the decision by the Pennsylvania congressman not to elaborate on a so-called deal also could become a political problem as Sestak tries for the U.S. Senate seat.

The White House reportedly is going to formally address the allegation in the next few days. In the meantime, Issa, R-Calif., is one of many inside and outside Washington who want the Democratic Senate primary candidate to explain in detail what offer the White House made...

In a breakthrough in the effort to overhaul the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, Congress is set to vote as early as this week on a proposal to repeal the rule barring gays from serving openly in the military.

The plan would have Congress vote on repeal long before the Pentagon completes its review of how to implement the policy -- something the White House said it hoped would happen first.

But the Obama administration nevertheless backed the plan, saying the proposed amendment would still allow the Department of Defense to finish its work before implementing any changes...

The White House press office is behaving more and more like an independent media outlet, bypassing traditional news avenues in favor of releasing its own "exclusive" video, voicing administration opinions on its official blog and blasting out updates via Twitter.

The trend has raised questions among the press corps about whether the administration is looking to just tap its own resources to make major announcements. President Obama leans more on internal media as he continues to criticize the "24/7" media environment -- singling out cable news, radio and blogs for occasional lectures -- and appears to be abandoning the prime-time press conference forum he used to discuss major developments during his first few months in office....

Such a tax would affect purchasers of all income levels by making the goods they buy more expensive and increasing the cost of living in the United States across the board.

“I know that there's been a lot of talk around town lately about the value-added tax," Obama told CNBC’s John Harwood. “That is something that has worked for some countries, and something that would be novel for the United States, and before I start saying, 'This makes sense or that makes sense,' I want to get a better picture of what our options are.”

Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), ranking member on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

The possible crime involves the claim – made by Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa.) – that a White House official offered him a high-level administration job in exchange for Sestak dropping out of the primary race against Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.). Sestak said such an offer was made to him, and members of Congress and legal experts have said if that's true, it would be a crime.

“I think a felony is something you don’t let go of just because an election has occurred,” Issa told CNSNews.com...

WASHINGTON - A high-stakes White House summit that opened Thursday with Republicans urging President Obama to "start over" on reforming the nation's health care system quickly bogged down into a debate over how to rein in spiraling health care costs.

"We have a very difficult gap to bridge here," said Rep. Eric Cantor, the No. 2 House Republican said in reference to Democrats' stalemated legislation to extend coverage to more than 30 million people who are now uninsured.. "We just can't afford this. That's the ultimate problem."

But Obama and Democratic leaders cast the reform they want as critical to tackling an issue that is even more pressing to many Americans -- the struggling economy.

The apparent strategy for Democrats was to highlight the several points of agreement on health care reform with Republicans and argue that it made no sense to start over again as Republicans are urging...

Rep. Joe Sestak, who is causing heartburn for Democratic leaders by running against Arlen Specter for a Senate nomination in Pennsylvania, says the White House dangled a federal job in front of him in an attempt to entice him to drop out of the state's Democratic primary, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Friday.

But the White House "vociferously" denies Sestak's accusation, which came during a taping on a local Sunday news show. A White House official told Fox News that Sestak is expected to "clarify" the allegation.

Sestak, however, stood by his statement on Friday...

The American public wants Congress to start the health care debate over from scratch - just as Republicans have been pushing - amid growing talk among Democrats about the need to use a procedural end run to ram through a revised overhaul bill.

A Zogby International poll released Tuesday shows that 57 percent of Americans do not like either of the competing health care bills produced by the Senate and House and say Congress should start over, as a group of bipartisan lawmakers head to a health care summit with President Obama next week.

White House officials say they plan to unveil their revised proposal ahead of the summit, prompting Republicans to question whether the meeting is an attempt at real negotiation or just strong-arming...

The documents show Obama wasted little time in giving Richards access, with her first visit coming on January 20 -- the date of Obama's inauguration -- for a luncheon reception with 299 total people.

Richards' next visit appears undocumented in the visitor logs.

(CNSNews.com) – Though unemployment is at 9.7 percent, and just six percent of Americans think the government has created jobs, President Barack Obama will hold a White House reception on Wednesday to mark the one-year anniversary of signing the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, better known as the economic stimulus bill.

Meanwhile, administration officials, including Vice President Joe Biden and cabinet secretaries, will travel to 35 locations across the country this week to promote the $787 stimulus, which was designed to revive the economy – a reported $272 billion of the $787 billion has been spent since the bill became law in February 2009.

Administration officials have insisted that the legislation is on course to “save or create” 3 million jobs.
