The House of representatives will vote next week on legislation that would stop abortion funding in Obamacare, the national health care plan that contains no limits on taxpayer funding of abortions.

H.R. 358, Protect Life Act, will likely come up for a vote on the House floor next Thursday after pro-life lawmakers fended off numerous hostile amendments from pro-abortion members of Congress during the committee markup. Capital Hill sources informed LifeNews today that they expect pro-abortion lawmakers to offer many of those weakening amendments that would water down the bill on the House floor.

The Protect Life Act makes it clear that no funds authorized or appropriated by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), including tax credits and cost-sharing reductions, may be used to pay for abortion or abortion coverage.

Republicans and Democrats in Congress are preparing for what may be a massive battle on taxpayer funding of abortion, abortion promotion and the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

Yesterday, the House passed H.R. 2608, a continuing resolution to fund the federal government at current levels and under current conditions until November 18. The Senate passed its version of the continuing resolution last week and the final bill to fund the federal government will go to President Barack Obama for his signature.

Now, Congress has less than two months to put together another spending bill to send to Obama to keep the federal government running beyond that.

Cantor said, "yes," and shortly thereafter said, “It seems as if the president is in full campaign mode. The president continues to say ‘pass my bill in its entirety.’ As I’ve said from the outset, this all-or-nothing approach is just not acceptable.”

More members of Congress — all Democrats — have come out in strong opposition to the impending investigation a House committee launched this week, when the head of an oversight committee requested numerous documents from the abortion business.

In a September 15 letter LifeNews.com obtained, Rep. Cliff Stearns, a Florida Republican who is the chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Investigations, writes to Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood.

The letter requests any information related to improper billing related to federally-funded programs, proof that federal funds are not being improperly used to pay for abortions by PPFA or its affiliates, audits by state agencies of any Planned Parenthood affiliate, and documentation of how many affiliates currently receive Title X family planning funding.

House Republicans have begun an investigation into Planned Parenthood’s use of federal funds, questioning whether the national network of abortion providers has proper checks in place to prevent violations of federal law.

Democrats and Planned Parenthood itself have blasted the investigation as a partisan move designed not only to score political points but also to curtail health care for women.

The investigation, announced by Rep. Cliff Stearns, chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee’s investigation subcommittee, in a letter earlier this month to Planned Parenthood Federation of America, asks for audits and other information about PPFA’s financing.

Washington (CNN) -- The Democratic-controlled Senate rejected a House GOP temporary spending bill in a procedural test vote Friday, inching the federal government closer to yet another potential shutdown and risking the loss of sorely needed disaster recovery funds.

Before the measure was even formally presented, senators cast it aside in a 59-36 vote.

Hours earlier, GOP leaders rammed the bill through the Republican-controlled House in a 219-203 vote after adding a series of cuts vehemently opposed by their Democratic counterparts.

Both chambers of Congress must agree on new spending legislation to avoid a partial shutdown after the close of the current fiscal year on September 30.

Fox has learned that House Republican leaders could try to move a new bill to fund the government, avert a shutdown and infuse FEMA with disaster money as early as Thursday night.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) tells Fox News, "We're going to vote tonight...We intend to make sure there isn't a government shutdown."

WASHINGTON (AP) — In a rebuke to GOP leaders, the House on Wednesday rejected a measure providing $3.7 billion for disaster relief as part of a bill to keep the government running through mid-November.

The surprise 230-195 defeat came at the hands of Democrats and tea party Republicans.

Democrats were opposed because the measure contains $1.5 billion in cuts to a government loan program to help car companies build fuel-efficient vehicles. For their part, many GOP conservatives felt the underlying bill permits spending at too high a rate.

The outcome sends House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and his leadership team back to the drawing board as they seek to make sure the government doesn't shut down at the end of next week.

Tea Party activist David Lewis has announced he will challenge pro-life Speaker John Boehner next year in the Republican primary for his Ohio congressional seat. Lewis says he is running because of one issue — pro-life — yet he misstates and misrepresent’s Boehner’s pro-life record on abortion.

Boehner is “an establishment Republican,” Lewis told The Enquirer newspaper, adding, “He doesn’t believe in the Tea Party. He doesn’t really believe in the pro-life issues.”

Boehner’s office has not commented on Lewis’ candidacy but the local Republican Party chairman, Dave Kern, told the Cincinnati newspaper, “I have no issue on educating the public on the wrongs of abortion. But I think the young man is mistaken to try to do damage to a committed soldier in this battle.
