House Republicans have included language in the new one-week Continuing Resolution that would put the ban back in place that prohibits taxpayer funding of abortions in the nation’s capital.

While most of the pro-life attention to the congressional budget battles has focused on the effort to yank taxpayer funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business, the long-term budget bill the House passed and Senate rejected also contained numerous pro-life riders addressing other instances of abortion funding or using taxpayer dollars to bankroll pro-abortion groups.

When House Republicans put forward HR 1, the continuing resolution bill to fund the federal government for FY2011, they put language in the legislation to restore the ban on taxpayer funding of abortions in the District of Columbia that Obama and House Democrats overturned when they controlled the chamber. Since the defeat of HR 1, pro-life organizations have clamored for a restoration of the D.C.

Senator Barbara Boxer, the number one pro-abortion Democrat in the Senate, is pushing a false claim that Planned Parenthood does mammograms as a defense of their status as a taxpayer-funded entity.

That claim comes despite an expose from Live Action, which called 30 Planned Parenthood centers across the country and learned that none of them have mammogram machines or actually do mammograms on site. All of them merely make referrals to legitimate medical centers that provide women with the breast cancer screening service.

Yet, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, Boxer has been repeating these false claims...

Planned Parenthood is buttering up President Barack Obama, because he has the last word on whether the abortion business will continue to receive tens of millions of dollars in taxpayer funds via the federal budget.

The House approved a long-term bill weeks ago with the Pence Amendment to yank funding for the abortion business, but Senate Democrats rejected it. As negotiations move forward on a continuing resolution to fund the federal government for most of the rest of the year, Planned Parenthood officials are concerned the House and Senate will agree to a measure that revokes its funding.

If that happens, Obama could issue a veto that would force lawmakers back to the drawing board with a bill that could restore Planned Parenthood place at the funding trough...

An anti-abortion group claimed Wednesday that Planned Parenthood lied about providing mammograms, releasing audio that showed clinic workers admitting they do not offer the procedure to patients.

The group, Live Action, alleged that contradicted a statement made last month by Planned Parenthood's CEO.

Planned Parenthood, though, said the CEO never made such a claim and readily acknowledged the organization does not offer the procedure at its clinics. The group called Live Action's claim a "false charge" intended to fit its "extreme" agenda...

House Speaker John Boehner appears to be holding fast and insisting that House Republicans will not back down on keeping a provision to revoke taxpayer funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business in the budget bill.

House Republicans and Senate Democrats are attempting to negotiate a long-term continuing resolution that would fund the federal government and federal programs, such as the Title X family planning program that provides tens of millions in federal funds to Planned Parenthood. The House approved a long-term bill weeks ago with the Pence Amendment to yank funding for the abortion business, but Senate Democrats rejected it.

Since then, both chambers approved a short-term bill that did not contain the amendment and Boehner and other top Republican leaders said they would renew the fight for the Pence Amendment in the long-term bill, which would make the de-funding effort longer-lasting...

Democrats said Tuesday that in an effort to find a spending compromise that would keep the government from shutting down April 8, they are willing to look at some of the legislative add-ons House Republicans tacked onto their spending-cuts bill.

The dozens of “policy riders,” as they are called, include provisions to defund the Obama administration’s environmental and health care efforts, eliminate some of President Obama’s “czar” positions, and stop taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood.

Riders, many of them added by tea party-backed Republicans during four days of House debate last month, have become a central fight as the two sides try to hammer out a final agreement. The other sticking points are the overall dollar amount to cut, and whether those cuts come only from discretionary spending or also include mandatory spending....

Using militaristic terms at a dinner sponsored by one of the nation’s most polemic pro-abortion groups, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi condemned Republicans who want to de-fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

At a Monday gala sponsored by NARAL at the Intercontinental Hotel in San Francisco, Pelosi condemned what she called the Republican “war on women” — the de-funding effort that she said was the biggest attack on abortion since Roe v. Wade. Pelosi told the 700 pro-abortion activists that Republicans clamoring for abortion funding cuts are engaging in an “ideological harangue” not just against abortion, but family planning, and they need “a lesson in the birds and bees.”

“If you don’t want to terminate a pregnancy, you might want to prevent it. Family planning funding? People really get this. Does that give you any picture of how insulting their mentality is?” she said....

Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska is one of just a handful of pro-abortion Republicans in the Senate, but she has become the most outspoken of the group saying she will fight to ensure Planned Parenthood continues getting taxpayer funding.

Murkowski already publicly staked a position favoring continuing taxpayer financing of the nation’s biggest abortion business and she said today the fight is not over

“I think there are some that feel very strongly and will continue the effort to defund. I think that is a fight that is not yet resolved,” she told the Anchorage Daily News...

New Jersey Sen. Frank Lautenberg is coming under fire from pro-life advocates for comments he made at a recent rally Planned Parenthood staged to save taxpayer funding for its abortion business.

Lautenberg appeared with about 100 supporters who wore pink shirts and stood in front of a pink-colored bus Planned Parenthood has been driving around the country in order to build up support for receiving tens of millions in taxpayer dollars to support what is the biggest abortion business in the country.

“Planned Parenthood is under attack by Tea Party Republicans who have put their extremist ideology above women’s health,” Lautenberg said while pro-life advocates who counterprotested shouted, “Shame on you, Lautenberg”...

The leading pro-life member of the House says Republicans should include an amendment revoking funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business in the next continuing resolution, whether it covers the short or long-term.

After Senate Democrats defeated the House-approved long-term continuing resolution that de-funded Planned Parenthood and contained pro-life riders to stop funding abortion or pro-abortion organizations in other instances, House Republicans approved a short-term CR that did not contain those provisions so they can begin negotiations on a second long-term measure.
