Responding to a request from House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, for the Obama administration to "provide a list of all pending and planned rulemakings with a projected impact on our economy in excess of $1 billion," President Barack Obama tells the speaker that his administration has taken steps to minimize regulatory burdens and costs government wide.

In a letter to Boehner, Mr. Obama writes that his executive order earlier this year "called for an ambitious Government-wide review of rules now on the books" which the president says is now complete. He adds that the review led to cuts from 26 agencies, generating more than $10 billion in savings over 5 years.

President Obama replied Tuesday with a list of seven proposed rules with an estimated economic impact of over $1 billion.

Just days after the administration said it was eliminating hundreds of unnecessary regulations, House Speaker John A. Boehner fired off a letter blasting President Obama for a 15 percent increase in the number of new rules and demanding cost estimates for some of them by the time Congress returns from break.

“This year the administration’s current regulatory agenda identifies 219 planned new regulations that have estimated annual costs in excess of $100 million each,” the Ohio Republican wrote in a letter to Mr. Obama Friday. “That’s almost a 15 percent increase over last year, and appears to contradict public suggestions by the administration this week that the regulatory burden on American job creators is being scaled back.”

Although President Barack Obama repeatedly refused to allow any provisions de-funding Planned Parenthood and rebuffed Speaker John Boehner’s efforts to do so, one conservative writer hopes Boehner will try again.

Terry Jeffrey, the publisher of the conservative news web site CNS News, is out with a column today at Town Hall urging Boehner to try again. He wants the pro-life House Speaker to exercise the rights of the House of Representatives to take the lead on spending and government funding issues.

“But will the Republican-majority House, led by Boehner, exercise that authority when it enacts the bills to keep the government running after Sept. 30?” he asks...

House Speaker John A. Boehner on Wednesday tapped three top Republicans with spending-cuts credentials to join the 12-member super committee tasked with finding $1.5 trillion in deficit-lowering tax increases or spending cuts.

Mr. Boehner selected Rep. Dave Camp of Michigan, who is Congress’s chief tax-writer; Rep. Fred Upton of Michigan, who is chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee; and Rep. Jeb Hensarling of Texas, who is chairman of the House Republican Conference.

Members haven't been named yet, but appointees to the new congressional "super committee" tasked with achieving at least $1.2 trillion in debt reduction by the end of the year will find their colleagues hopeful but not necessarily optimistic about the outcome.

"I'm not putting all my stock in this committee," Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., told "Fox News Sunday," adding that he would be willing to serve on the committee if House Speaker John Boehner named him to it.

The debt-limit deal announced on Sunday night is expected to attract more than 60 votes in the Senate, but its outlook in the House is much more cloudy.
