While many presidential candidates head to the convention podium with an Ivy League degree in their back pockets, a majority of Republican vice presidential candidates in the last 24 years have come with a common qualification on their resumes.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney‘s selection of Wisconsin Republican Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate continued a trend of Republican vice presidential candidates with resumes boasting former and, now with Ryan, current membership, in the Republican Study Committee (RSC).

Six of the last seven presidential elections, and four of the last five tickets have featured RSC vice presidential candidates — former Vice President Dan Quayle (1988 and 1992), former Housing Secretary Jack Kemp (1996), former Vice President Dick Cheney (2000 and 2004), and now Ryan (2012).

President Obama has started to come around to the Bush administration's way of thinking when it comes to fighting terrorism, former Vice President Dick Cheney said in an interview aired Tuesday.

Cheney, who two years ago accused Obama of endangering America by dismantling controversial counterterror policies from the Bush administration, said he's since observed Obama become "more sympathetic to the kinds of things we did." In the interview with NBC News, Cheney repeatedly said the president has "learned" while in office the value of programs ranging from Predator drone strikes to the Guantanamo Bay detainee camp.

"I think he's learned that what we did was far more appropriate than he ever gave us credit for while he was a candidate," Cheney said in the interview with NBC News. "So I think he's learned from experience. And part of that experience was the Democrats having a terrible showing last election"...

Liz Cheney, Vice President Dick Cheney's daughter and a former Bush administration official, on Monday accused Vice President Biden of downplaying the threat from Al Qaeda and suggested the Obama administration isn't doing everything in its power to stop terror.

Cheney came to her father's defense Monday after Biden said the former vice president is "misinformed or is misinforming" the country about the Obama administration's unnamed War on Terror.

Republicans may be seeing the start of a political surge, but GOP voters still don't know who they want to lead it.

A new poll shows Republican voters are deeply divided over who they want to carry the party mantle in the 2012 presidential race. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin leads the pack, a couple other names are close behind and a whopping 42 percent of Republicans are listed as undecided.

The numbers suggest the 2012 presidential primary is any Republicans' game. Republicans are expecting to pick up a lot of seats in the congressional midterm elections, buoyed by success in the Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial elections last year, and the Massachusetts Senate election last month. But while President Obama's approval ratings have dropped significantly since he took office, it's unclear who would be up to the task of challenging him...

NEW YORK -- Former Vice President Dick Cheney said Tuesday that trying professed Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in New York City will make him "as important or more important than Usama bin Laden."

In an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity, Cheney said holding the trial in a lower Manhattan courtroom near ground zero will make Mohammed "a hero in certain circles, especially in the radical regions of Islam around the world."

"He'll be able to go in whenever he's up on the stand and proselytize, if you will, millions of people out there around the world including some of his radical Muslim friends and generate a whole new generation of terrorists,'' Cheney said...

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- After dialing back his attacks on President Obama's foreign policy, former Vice President Dick Cheney says the administration has damaged U.S. ties with key allies, dangerously wavered in Afghanistan, undermined progress in Iraq and sabotaged the Bush administration's national security legacy.

In a hard-hitting, wide-ranging speech Wednesday for a conservative gathering, Cheney targeted the administration's decision-making process on how to proceed in Afghanistan, saying Obama has failed to give troops on the ground a clear mission or defined goals and appeared "afraid to make a decision."

"The White House must stop dithering while America's armed forces are in danger," Cheney said at the Center for Security Policy. "Make no mistake, signals of indecision out of Washington hurt our allies and embolden our adversaries"...
