Actress Janine Turner, who also runs a group designed to inspire young people to study the U.S. Constitution, said that the new health care law and how it was crafted were “not based on what a true Republic represents or what our Founding Fathers would have liked.”

She also said there likely will be “some payback” in the November elections because of the health care law.

At an event to launch her new organization, “Constituting America,” CNSNews.com asked Turner about the mandate in the law requiring every American to carry health insurance or face a penalty and that, in supporting this, had “members of Congress deliberately and willfully violated the Constitution, or do you think that they just don’t know the law and that’s why they voted in favor of the bill?”....

(CNSNews.com) – A conservative Republican congressman from Georgia is calling for congressional hearings to investigate actions by the U.S. military in recent weeks to cancel or rescind invitations that had been made to two prominent conservative Christian leaders -- Franklin Graham and Tony Perkins -- to speak at military prayer events.

“I think that we need to have some hearings on this because this seems to be something that the military is spending some energy on and we need to raise the visibility on it,” Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) told CNSNews.com.

Last week, the Army “disinvited” Franklin Graham, the well-known son of the Rev. Billy Graham, to speak at the Pentagon on May 6 -- the National Day of Prayer -- after a military advocacy group objected that Graham had characterized Islam after the 9/11 attacks as “evil” and “wicked.”...

ALBANY, NY - Opponents of the fiscally conservative Tea Party movement say they plan to infiltrate and dismantle the political group by trying to make its members appear to be racist, homophobic, and moronic.

Jason Levin, creator of CrashTheTeaParty.org, says the group has 65 leaders in major cities across the country who are trying to recruit members to infiltrate Tea Party events for April 15 -- tax filing day.

He says they want to exaggerate the group's least appealing qualities, further distance the Tea Party from mainstream America, and damage the public's opinion of them...

ALBANY, NY - They've been called Oreos, traitors and Uncle Toms, and are used to having to defend their values. Now black conservatives are really taking heat for their involvement in the mostly white Tea Party movement -- and for having the audacity to oppose the policies of the nation's first black president.

"I've been told I hate myself. I've been called an Uncle Tom. I've been told I'm a spook at the door," said Timothy F. Johnson, chairman of the Frederick Douglass Foundation, a group of black conservatives who support free market principles and limited government.

"Black Republicans find themselves always having to prove who they are. Because the assumption is the Republican Party is for whites and the Democratic Party is for blacks," he said....

In the angry aftermath of the battle over health care, Republicans and "tea party" activists found themselves playing both defense and offense, condemning violent rhetoric and threats coming from their own ranks while accusing victorious Democrats of hyping the danger for political advantage.

Leaders of the tea party movement said Democratic lawmakers and the mainstream media were seizing on isolated, unrepresentative incidents to vilify the movement as a whole. The disparate, grass-roots movement supplied much of the passion opposing the health care overhaul, but the bulk of the coverage of their protests focused on racial and homophobic taunts targeting Democratic lawmakers.

"Liberals and Democrats, with help from their friends in the media, have tried to marginalize the tea party movement," said Sal Russo, chief strategist for the Tea Party Express....

On Thursday, when some 10,000 activists gather in Washington for this year’s conference, they will find themselves part of a conservative movement significantly different than it was during the Bush administration, or even in 2009.

A jolt of anti-Obama populist energy has upended the movement’s traditional hierarchy, lifting some new or previously low profile groups to unprecedented heights while leaving traditional powers struggling to adapt.

Ascendant are groups that focus on fiscal issues such as reducing government spending and taxation, which last year drove tens of thousands of new conservative activists to the streets and town halls in protest of big spending initiatives backed by President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats...

Leaders from different branches of the conservative movement are planning to release a document today in Washington that one longtime activist hopes will "codify what it means to be a small-government, principled conservative."

Conservative leaders have been meeting in small groups since the 2008 election, trying to figure out how to relaunch the conservative movement. Tomorrow, a group of economic, social and foreign policy conservatives will be gathering at George Washington's Mount Vernon home to sign the "Mount Vernon Statement."

Among those in attendance will be Richard Viguerie, the chairman of Conservative HQ.com, who believes the conservative movement "got seriously off track during the big government days of George Bush, Karl Rove and Tom DeLay." This document, Viguerie says, is designed to unite conservatives...

In a bid to make conservative chic, organizers of the annual meet-up of Republican Party faithful and right-wing firebrands are taking pains this year to gear their summit toward students and the under-30 crowd. Added to the menu are a slew of new media workshops and an entertainment lineup befitting a college campus.

Organizers say the conference, which kicks off Thursday in Washington, has had a large college-age contingent for years now. But they are making an extra push to attract and entertain that crowd with youth-oriented talks and the addition of something called the XPAC Lounge -- a room one organizer dubbed the "hub of fun."....

The statement emphatically says no to the type of "change" pushed by political leaders who ignore the Constitution's limits on government power.

“In recent decades, America’s principles have been undermined and redefined in our culture, our universities and our politics,” says an excerpt from the statement. “The self-evident truths of 1776 have been supplanted by the notion that no such truths exist.
