The Republican presidential candidates sparred over the issue of abortion in tonight’s GOP presidential debate. Below, LifeNews is bringing you the unfiltered debate transcript showing that exchange.

Ultimately, each Republican presidential candidate could be called into question for criticism over the pro-life views.

Romney could be said to be not authentic on his pro-life conversion because he supported abortion before that and some say the conversion was political. Santorum has faced questions for endorsing pro-abortion Sen. Arlen Specter, his Pennsylvania college when he served in the U.S. Senate.

Gingrich has faced criticism for not sufficiently believing life begins at conception or fertilization and for not pressing pro-life issues as much as he could have in Congress.

In a Saturday night debate, ABC News host George Stephanopoulos, a former Democratic strategist for former pro-abortion President Bill Clinton, devoted considerable time to questioning the candidates on the issue of contraception.

Although Stephanopoulos was panned heavily by conservative bloggers and reported for devoting so much time to such a non-controversial topic at a time when the American voting public is focused on the economy, the discussion did provide an opportunity for the Republican candidates to present their pro-life views.

During the discussion, Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, outlined his opposition to Roe and his support for better judges.

“I don’t believe they decided that correctly. In my view, Roe v. Wade was improperly decided. It was based upon that same principle.

Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney essentially tied tonight in the Iowa caucuses with a showing that will elevate their standing in the race for the Republican nomination to replace pro-abortion President Barack Obama.

Together they may now represent the upper echelon of candidates after bouncing back and forth for the lead much of the night.

The final vote count is expected, according to media reports, to show Romney will have won Iowa by 8 votes once the final precinct is officially counted, though both the Romney and Santorum campaigns agree on the unofficial vote tally.

Romney and Santorum both captured 25% of the vote of the more than 120,000 Republicans who gathered across the first presidential battleground state to cast their ballots for their favorite candidate to take the GOP against Obama in November.

As Republicans head to the Iowa caucus today to begin the process of selecting a GOP nominee to take on pro-abortion President Barack Obama, the Planned Parenthood abortion business is touting Obama.

That the nation’s largest abortion business will eventually endorse Obama for another four-year term is not a surprise to any pro-life advocate, but Planned Parenthood tweeted out praise that gives a more-than-obvious hint at the direction it will pursue politically this election year.

“Thanks for being a strong #prochoice president, @BarackObama,” the Planned Parenthood Action Fund tweeted this morning.

Obama and Planned Parenthood have maintained a cozy relationship throughout his four years in office and the development of his massively pro-abortion record.

Nebraska Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson, a pivotal figure in the health care debate, announced his retirement Tuesday in a letter to Nebraskans, saying, "Simply: it's time to move on."

"It's time for me to step away from elective office, spend more time with my family and look for new ways to serve our state and nation. Therefore, I am announcing today that I will not seek reelection," he said.

Nelson's departure is not considered a surprise despite efforts from his allies to encourage him to seek reelection, though Democrats were taken aback that he chose not to run again while holding $3 million in the bank ahead of expected GOP attacks.

Sources say the senator has been frustrated for awhile with Washington. He was roundly scorned for his role in the health care debate by Democrats, who were furious with his opposition to the so-called public option and requests for exemption on abortion coverage.

New Hampshire Right to Life is suing the Obama administration for access to records about a decision to fund Planned Parenthood in violation of state rules, a move that comes amid efforts by some state officials to get rid of virtually all federal funding to The Granite State.

The organization filed suit on Thursday after complaining that the Department of Health and Human Services was ignoring its Freedom of Information Act request for documentation explaining why it awarded a $1 million grant to help fund family planning clinics in six cities despite a state decision to reject the money and allegedly absent a competitive process for health clinics to vie for the grant.

A Christian college is suing the Obama administration over requiring businesses to pay for insurance plans that cover Plan B and ella — two types of birth-control pills the college and other prolife advocates view as abortifacient.

Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius handed down the mandate last summer in a list of preventative services insurers must cover without copayments (i.e., for free upon purchase) under President Obama's health-care law.

Colorado Christian College filed a lawsuit against the mandate on Wednesday, charging that it violates the constitutional rights of free speech and religion.

"The government’s mandate unconstitutionally coerces Colorado Christian to violate its deeply-held religious beliefs under threat of heavy fines and penalties," the lawsuit said.

"The mandate also forces Colorado Christian to fund government-dictated speech that is directly at odds with its own speech and religious teachings.

The Obama administration faces a new lawsuit from a pro-life group in New Hampshire on behalf of pro-life residents of the state upset the Obama administration forced it to fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

The New Hampshire Executive Council voted in June to cancel a $1.8 million dollar contract with Planned Parenthood, citing that taxpayers would be subsidizing, at least indirectly, Planned Parenthood’s abortion business.

The council has filed a formal protest with the Department of Health and Human Services and the Government Accountability Office following the Obama Administration’s award of a non-competitive $1 million dollar contract with Planned Parenthood of Northern New England in response.

Sixty pro-life leaders and heads of faith-based organizations have signed off on a letter to President Barack Obama and HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius protesting the very narrow exemption to the health insurance contraceptives mandate.

The mandate has upset pro-life groups that don’t want to be forced to provide health insurance coverage that pays for contraception, birth control drugs, or drugs like the morning after pill, Plan B and ella that can cause abortions in some circumstances.
