The White House has indicated Obama administration officials will meet with religious employers over the controversial mandate that requires them to pay for birth control and drugs that may cause abortions for their employees.

The U.S. Senate may vote this afternoon on an amendment that would stop the mandate President Barack Obama put in place to force religious groups to pay for insurance coverage that includes birth control and abortion-causing drugs.

Last week, Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid blocked a pro-life Republican senator from putting forward an amendment to a Senate bill that would prevent the controversial new Obamacare mandate from going into effect. Reid came under heavy for fire complaining that Republicans want to protect religious rights.

Now that the battle over Komen and Planned Parenthood is dying down, pro-life advocates are turning their attention to renewing their fight against the new mandate pro-abortion President Barack Obama put in place.

Last month, the Obama Administration issued a statement re-iterating the “contraceptive mandate” requiring all insurance providers cover the full range of FDA-approved drugs and devices would remain intact. This mandate, issued in August, includes drugs that work after conception to destroy life rather than prevent it.

Metaxas suggested that only God can open people's eyes to see the unborn as human beings, and urged pro-life advocates to love those who disagree with them.

President Obama didn't mention abortion in his remarks, but said his faith calls him to defend those who can't speak for themselves.

The Obama administration is currently involved in a battle with the Roman Catholic Church, which objects to a government directive that it must provide contraceptive coverage in its healthcare plans, starting next year.

In an email distributed by Human Events, a conservative publication, Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich takes the Obama administration to task of its new Obamacare mandate.

The mandate, which has been soundly condemned by pro-life and religious groups, would force religious employers to pay for health insurance coverage that includes drugs that can cause abortions, birth control and contraception — even if the employer has a conscience objection to providing such coverage. The Obama administration has given such employers one year to implement the mandate but Catholics groups and two colleges — one Catholic and one Protestant — have already filed lawsuits against it.

“Last week, the Obama administration finalized a radical new rule that uses the health care law to require all health insurance providers to cover abortion-inducing drugs and sterilization as well as contraception, all free of charge,” Gingrich writes.

As Americans marked 39 years of virtually unlimited abortions under Roe v. Wade this past weekend, various Planned Parenthood leaders and officials participated in interviews and some of their frank comments are startling.

Angie Murie, executive director of Planned Parenthood Waterloo Region in Canada, was recently quoted in a National Post article claiming she opposed sex-selection abortions but essentially admitting that women should be able to have abortions for just about any reason.

“I wrestle with gender-based abortion more than any other reason [a person might give for choosing to have an abortion,]” she said. “From a macro perspective, I don’t think it’s a very good idea for us to be eliminating women.

As the United States recently marked the 39th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, a new survey shows that the majority of Americans support the pro-life view on abortion.

A new national survey conducted by the Marist Institute and commissioned by the Knights of Columbus finds 79 percent of Americans say that they would not allow abortion after the first three months of pregnancy. Another 51 percent would only allow abortion – at most – in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother – or would not allow it at all.

That second number is a positive one showing more than half of Americans take a pro-life position on abortion saying they want all or almost all abortions to not be permitted.
