Now that pro-life elected officials are in firm control of the House and increased their numbers in the Senate, attention turns to the next battle for the pro-life movement: repealing abortion-funding ObamaCare.

The election victories didn’t give the pro-life side enough votes in the Senate to control the legislative agenda, and President Barack Obama can still wield a veto pen, but that doesn’t mean top Republicans won’t press for repealing ObamaCare anyway.

The Republican midterm wave swept through state capitals across the nation Tuesday, with historic gains in state legislative races that will give the GOP a major advantage in influencing congressional races over the next 10 years through redistricting.

Republicans have won control of at least 19 additional state chambers now controlled by Democrats. That number is expected to increase - and to surpass the party's 1994 total of 20 pickups - when final votes are tallied in six undecided races. The swing could eclipse the Democratic gains in the post-Watergate midterm elections of 1974, when 21 state chambers changed hands.

Republicans won control of 55 state legislative bodies and Democrats garnered control of 40, with one split. Abortion advocates will no longer control the House of Representatives as pro-life candidates won nationwide and Republican gains well more than the 40 seats needed to win.

Republicans won 20 additional races above and beyond the amount needed to become the majority party in the chamber and wrest control from pro-abortion Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

They will take over the House of Representatives in January with their largest majority since the 1940s. When they ran the House from 1995 to 2007, GOP lawmakers never had more than 231 seats and, after Tuesday, they will have at least 240 seats — most of them pro-life...

Senator Jim DeMint's biggest triumph may not be his easy re-election in South Carolina Tuesday night, but the victories of fiscally-conservative Republicans he supported in other states. He sees the fresh faces as part of a movement to not only challenge policies of the Obama administration, but also what he sees as excesses within his own party.

At his victory celebration in Greenville, South Carolina, DeMint announced, "These Republicans know one thing: If they don't do what they say this time, not only are they out, but the Republican Party is dead, and it should be."

DeMint's opponent, Democrat Alvin Greene, had received little support from his own party and faced legal troubles after a University of South Carolina student accused him of showing her obscene photos...

(CNSNews.com) - Self-identified conservatives were a larger share of the electorate in Tuesday's congressional elections than either self-identified Republicans or Democrats or Independents, according to the exit poll conducted for the major television networks by Edison Research.

Of the Americans who voted in U.S. House elections on Tuesday, 41 percent said they were conservatives, 39 percent said they were moderates, and 20 percent said they were liberals.

At the same time, only 36 percent said they were Republicans while 36 percent said they were Democrats and 28 percent who said they were Independents.

The final USA Today/Gallup poll of Americans' voting preferences this election is delving into "uncharted territory," with the gap between Republicans and Democrats showing the GOP easily reaching the 40-seat mark for a takeover of the U.S. House majority.

The Oct. 28-31 survey of 1,539 likely voters shows the critical voting group of likely voters giving Republicans a 10- to 15-point margin. The vote spread shows Republicans winning 52-55 percent of likely voters compared to 40-42 for Democrats on the national generic ballot...

Ask the people of Harry Reid's hometown what they think about their neighbor and senator, and they'll give pretty much the same answer as the rest of Nevadans. They're divided. But ask a little more and it appears they might be leaning, ever so slightly, toward dumping the man who has represented them in Congress since 1983, and replacing him with Republican challenger Sharron Angle. Their sentiments -- closely split, maybe a little more Angle than Reid -- mirror the polls of the last few weeks. If Nevadans take those feelings to the voting booth on Election Day, they will hand Democrats the biggest single loss in what appears to be a terrible election season.

Even on a beautiful fall day, Searchlight can be a bleak place, with sun-bleached mobile homes outnumbering houses, buildings in various stages of disrepair, and cars slumped on flat tires.

Based on polling data, polling trends and the movement and momentum in the closing week of the campaigns, it appears the Senate will have a historic tie, which pro-abortion Vice President Joe Biden will be able to break.

GOP candidates will easily pick up seats four states (Arkansas, Indiana, North Dakota, Wisconsin) and will win closer election victories in five more (Colorado, Illinois, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Washington). They will also hold Alaska.

They will relinquish the ability to control the Senate form their pro-abortion counterparts because they will fail to win in West Virginia and California...
