Time to Come Home

Could it happen again? Many Jews and Israel supporters are taking a hard look at the disturbing signs of our times, and asking if there are parallels to 1930s Germany. How did so many Jews miss the warning signs of the Holocaust? How do we interpret similar trends today?

Once Adolf Hitler became chancellor in 1933, an “ascending grade of injustice, political reprisal, concentration camps, religious persecution … purges, obliteration of speech and press … and expropriation” commenced, said Bishop Peter Ireton in 1938. By 1941, escape routes were blocked.

Refugee or Infiltrator? Who’s to Say?

The dire humanitarian situations in Syria, Africa, Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon and elsewhere are of epic proportions but no longer making headline news even though massive numbers of people are continuing to flee brutal, totalitarian regimes. As the world gazes on, it seems obvious what to do to help these helpless people but that would mean the opening of borders. In a different time this would have been the answer but given the nature of today’s enemy, this is definitely not the answer.

Terrorism in America – Fighting an Enemy Whose Name Cannot Be Spoken

While the U.S. was still reeling from the devastation caused by the Boston bombing and before it was known who was responsible for the act, there were those on the left who assumed, even hoped, that it was an act of right-wing terrorism.  When their hopes were dashed, they took a detour from grieving for the victims and began instead to focus on, as they imagined it, the probability of backlash against Muslim Americans. Apparently, they anticipated a string of retributive attacks against Muslim Americans. These speculators tend to be very selective about which victims deserve their attention and empathy.  And, their ideology is based on the belief that “Islamophobia” like its cohort, racism, is a prevalent force in the world.
