The 1994 election provides a beacon of hope for Republicans in Congress.  Voters in the historical mid-term election gave control of the United States House of Representatives to the Republicans for the first time in 40 years.  The last time the Republicans gained control of the House was when Dwight David Eisenhower won his overwhelming victory over Adlai Stevenson in 1952.

Senate Republicans also regained control of the Senate from 1953 to 1955, just as the Republicans in the House did.  While House Republicans were in the political wilderness for the next 40 years, President Ronald Reagan’s two landslides in 1980 and 1984 gave Republicans control of the Senate for six years.

The reason the U.S. Congress was controlled by the Democrats for most of the 40 years prior to the 1994 election can best be personified by the long-time minority  --  emphasis on minority  --  leader, Congressman Bob Michel, a very kind and genial man, but a highly ineffective leader.  Congressman Michel was perfectly content to accept crumbs from the Democrat spending feast.  If the Democrats promised a cut of $1 dollar in federal spending for every $1 tax increase  --  a highly unlikely proposal since they normally wanted more tax increases --  you can bet the spending cuts would not materialize following the tax increases because of decades of weak Republican leadership.

Senator Harry Reid, leader of the left-wing Democrats in the United States Senate, must be frightened about his reelection next year and about the several Republican challengers in Nevada who have a good-size lead over him in the polls.  He is desperate to get some kind of ObamaCare passed before Christmas and he cannot find the 60 votes to get a Senate floor vote on this socialized medicine scheme.   

Because of pressures like these, or out of pure stupidity, he went on the Senate floor on Monday and with some of the greatest chutzpah ever seen on the Senate floor insulted the Republican Senators and the Republican Party.  Indeed, Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss from Georgia said apparently Senate Majority Leader Reid is beginning "to crack."    

Senator Reid first complained that the Republicans were trying to stop the ObamaCare bill because all they can do is say no.  Reid then pretended that socialized medicine is something the American people want and the Republicans are trying to stop the bill from passing.  

Reid said on the Senate floor on Monday:  "Instead of joining us on the right side of history, all the Republicans can come up with is, 'Slow down, stop everything, let's start over.'  If you think you've heard these excuses before, you're right.  When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said, 'Slow down, it's too early, things aren't bad enough.'"  

It was unanimous amongst liberal and conservative talking heads on Bret Baier's Fox News show last evening, that Barack Obama's Green Jobs Czar, Van Jones, will be toast by, or at the very least, should be toast by Monday.  On Sean Hannity's show last night, a former staffer of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says he should voluntarily resign.  What did this "wack job," as one of the talking heads described him, do to deserve this prediction?
