As Erosion of Free Speech Continues 34% Feel First Amendment Guarantees Too Many Rights

Florida Atlantic University (FAU) has adopted a new “Free Speech and Campus Civility” policy, which essentially disregards the First Amendment. Though initially the document espouses the benefits of free speech, it abruptly launches into an assault on the First Amendment rights of the FAU community. “What we do insist on, however, is that everyone in the FAU community behave and speak to and about one another in ways that are not racist, religiously intolerant or otherwise degrading to others,” the document reads.

But, this is in direct opposition to the First Amendment. The university has banned speech that is clearly protected under the First Amendment. It is also protected under Florida’s constitution.

As FIRE notes:

And, Even More Assaults on the First Amendment…

The James Rosen incident is indicative of a trend, in recent years, of chipping away at First Amendment rights. In the Rosen case, the Justice Department claimed that it did not violate the press freedom of the Fox News Correspondent  as he isn’t press. Instead, the DOJ argued, he was an “aider and abettor and/or co-conspirator” in a spy ring for having receiving classified information about North Korea from an intelligence analyst.

Evidence of Rosen’s spying consisted of an e-mail to Rosen’s source stating that he wanted to break “news ahead of my competitors” and that they could “expose muddle-headed policy when we see it—or force the administration’s hand to go in the right direction, if possible.”

Is Europe’s Blatant Discrimination Against Christians Coming to America?

The news that the government of Great Britain is mounting a full-scale assault on Christians is not really surprising.  The left-wing in England, like their counterparts on the European continent, have long discriminated against Christians, while at the same time, in myriad ways, protected those of Muslim faith.  For much of his 3 years in office, Barack Obama and his administration have been mirroring Europe’s blatant discrimination against Christians.

The latest example of the rabid discrimination by Prime Minister David Cameron’s government in Great Britain against Christians came from a news report from the United Kingdom’s national newspaper, “The Daily Mail”.  According to the newspaper, the UK’s Equalities Minister Lynne Featherstone, a Liberal Democrat, has instructed government’s lawyers to stop Christian workers from wearing the cross.  The Cameron government will call on Europe’s “human rights” judges to dismiss the claims of Christian workers Nadia Eweida and Shirley Chaplin that they have a right to wear a cross to work as a symbol of their faith in Jesus Christ.

Anyone can find themselves being used

The New York Times carried a story on February 3, that painted a picture of a town gone mad with anger.  Abby Goodnough reported from Cranston RI  (article here) that a 16 year old atheist by the name of Jessica Ahlquist sued the local high school over the fact that the school keeps a prayer hanging on the auditorium wall.

Obama: America’s First Dictator?

Who needs a United States Congress or a United States Constitution when you are Barack Obama?  He has now assumed near-dictatorial powers such as trampling on the constitutional and religious freedom rights of the American people; signing into law unconstitutional legislation; making illegal “recess” appointments to his administration; dictating unconstitutional policy through executive action when he cannot get Congress to pass his socialist agenda; and on and on.

Most recently, Obama has tread upon the religious freedom rights guaranteed to the American people by the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights in the United States Constitution by demanding that religious institutions provide “free” abortifacient drugs, etc. to their employees in their health care plans, which Obama maintains ObamaCare gives his administration the right to do.
