Whereas: Our Founding Fathers NEVER intended that the branch they wanted to be the weakest of the 3 branches of American government -- the federal judiciary -- to be as strong as it is today; Our Founding Fathers NEVER intended for the federal judiciary to be able to issue tyrannical judments similar to those edicts that the British government was issuing before the American Revolution; Our Founding Fathers NEVER intended a run-away-judiciary to be able to override the will of the American
people;
Whereas: For the past 45 or so years, our federal judges have been overriding the will of the American people and legislating from the bench; taking prayer out of public schools in 1962; ruling that abortion on demand was legal in Roe v. Wade in 1973; trying to take the Pledge of Allegiance out of school because of the words “Under God” in 2003; and now--by a 5-4 Supreme Court decision in 2005 -- taking the 10 Commandments out of America’s courthouses.
Whereas: The United States Congress has shirked its constitutional responsibilities and refused to rein in liberal tyrannical federal judges;
Whereas: Our Founding Fathers never intended that a minority of US Senators could determine whether or not a President’s judicial nominees could receive a confirmation vote of the full US Senate;
Whereas: After the longest period in American history where there have been no vacancies on the Supreme Court two vacancies have been created when Justice Sandra Day O'Connor stepped down from her position on the Supreme Court and Chief Justice William Rehnquist passed away creating the opportunities to replace a moderate Supreme Court justice with a justice who does not legislate from the bench and look toward foreign laws for making judicial decisions and to replace a true conservative with another solid conservative;
Be it Resolved: That we the undersigned will strongly support President Bush’s conservative nominees to the US Supreme Court, and that we will support efforts to end Senate obstruction and will fight for “up or down” votes by the full Senate on ALL of the President’s judicial nominees.
