Christian Coalition of America Praises Senate for Defeating Goodwin Liu's Nomination

Christian Coalition of America praises the U.S. Senate for rejecting Berkeley law professor Goodwin Liu, arguably the most left-wing judicial nominee ever nominated by the president. It was a huge defeat for the president and for judicial activism. Liu was defeated by a margin of 52-43 (one voting present and 4 Senators not voting; 60 votes were needed to stop the ongoing debate on this radical professor.)
Roberta Combs, president of Christian Coalition, said after the vote on Thursday afternoon: "Had Professor Liu been confirmed, he would have sat on the already most liberal court in the United States, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, whose decisions are frequently overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court. The Senate's action today is a good first step in reining in the leftist judicial activism in the federal court system."
Goodwin Liu's judicial activism is best exemplified by this statement: "Interpreting the Constitution, we argue, requires adaptation of its broad principles to the conditions and challenges faced by successive generations. The question that properly guides interpretation is not how the Constitution would have been applied at the Founding but rather how it should be applied today in order to sustain its vitality in light of the changing needs, conditions, and understandings of our society." There is no doubt that had the Senate confirmed Goodwin Liu today that those coming before his court would not have received anything close to a fair deal.
