Washington, D.C. - Christian Coalition of America commends U.S. District Judge David O. Carter for dismissing a lawsuit yesterday brought before the court by a homosexual couple in California who argued that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), passed overwhelmingly by the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate, violate the U.S. Constitution by discriminating against them.  Indeed, President Bill Clinton signed DOMA into law in 1996 after the House and Senate passed the measure by huge margins of 342-67 and 85-14 respectively.

"The American people -- as evidenced by votes of their elected representatives, and through ballot initiatives in 30 states -- are overwhelmingly opposed to homosexual 'marriage'.  Federal judges should not be involved in a decision so important to Americans", said Roberta Combs, President of the Christian Coalition of America.

So far, 30 states have had ballot initiatives in which voters have overwhelmingly (by an average of 70%) voted against homosexual "marriages" in their states, including liberal states such as Hawaii, Oregon and California.  It is expected that more states will follow their lead in the years ahead.
