Christian Coalition Helps House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner Gain Bipartisan Victory on 'Net Neutrality'

Washington, D.C. -- Christian Coalition of America played a major role in the House Judiciary Committee hearing today by helping Chairman James Sensenbrenner gain a key bipartisan victory (with one Member voting present) as his "Internet Freedom and Nondiscrimination Act of 2006," H.R. 5417 -- dealing with the issue of "Net Neutrality" -- passed by a margin of 20-13. Christian Coalition urges the Senate to pass similar legislation when they return from their Memorial Day recess.

Roberta Combs, the President of Christian Coalition of America said, "Christian Coalition congratulates House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner and Ranking Member John Conyers for standing up for the American people and for continued freedom on the Internet. We urge Congress to move aggressively to save the Internet -- and allow ideas rather than money to control what Americans can access on the World Wide Web. We urge all Americans to contact their Members of Congress and urge them to save the Internet and to support the bipartisan Sensenbrenner/Conyers 'Net Neutrality' bill".

Christian Coalition of America wholeheartedly agrees with Chairman James Sensenbrenner's statement after passage of his "Internet Freedom and Nondiscrimination Act of 2006", when he said: "The Committee - in a bipartisan fashion - understands that this legislation will provide an insurance policy for Internet users against being harmed by broadband network operators abusing their market power to discriminate against content and service providers.... This legislation is a must for any telecommunications because it will ensure that this type of discriminatory conduct will not take place, and will help to continue the tradition of innovation and competition that has defined the Internet."

Christian Coalition of America wants Congress to ensure that the Internet remains accessible to all Americans, rich and poor, and is very encouraged by the legislation passed by the House Judiciary Committee today. The Internet is what it is today because every site, no matter how obscure, is just as accessible to every individual as any name brand site with a multi-million dollar budget. Every American has the opportunity to create their own site and say what they want to the entire world and have the same access to the world as anyone else. And consumers have the ability to connect with them.
