FACT CHECK: Obama's Jobs Plan Paid For?

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama's promise Thursday that everything in his jobs plan will be paid for rests on highly iffy propositions.

It will only be paid for if a committee he can't control does his bidding, if Congress puts that into law and if leaders in the future -- the ones who will feel the fiscal pinch of his proposals -- don't roll it back.

Underscoring the gravity of the nation's high employment rate, Obama chose a joint session of Congress, normally reserved for a State of the Union speech, to lay out his proposals.

But if the moment was extraordinary, the plan he presented was conventional Washington rhetoric in one respect: It employs sleight-of-hand accounting... (READ MORE)

Senate GOP Leader McConnell talks about Obama's "failed approach to job creation"

The leader of the Republicans in the United States Senate, Senator Mitch McConnell from Kentucky, took to the Senate floor the first day back from summer recess and blasted the Obama administration's "failed approach to job creation."  Indeed, for the first time in decades, a president of the United States had zero job creation during the month of August.

During his almost embarassing appearance before a joint session of Congress this coming Thursday  --  a forum in the past used by Franklin D. Roosevelt to declare war on Japan and by George W. Bush to declare war on Islamic terrorism  --  Obama will try to intimidate the Republicans into voting for another gargantuan stimulus and tax increases if he can get away with it, even though his first trillion dollar stimulus was a complete and utter failure.

Senate Leader McConnell said during his speech on the Senate floor today:  “We need the President to be as bold about liberating job creators as he’s been about shackling them. I mean, you don’t lift a single regulation and suddenly claim to be Margaret Thatcher"... (READ MORE)

Speak Out for Prayer at 9-11 Anniversary Memorial Service

On September 11th, a public event will be held in New York City in commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the dreadful terror attacks of 2001. And God is not welcome.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is refusing to allow members of the clergy to play a role in the upcoming public memorial service – or to allow any references to faith and prayer.

As you know, faith was the spiritual backbone that carried us through. In the days just after the attacks our public officials were happy to publicly seek God’s protection at a high-profile inter-faith service at Yankee Stadium.

How soon they forget... (READ MORE)

Romney, Perry Spar at Presidential Debate as GOP Hopefuls Take On Obama, Each Other

The two titans of the Republican presidential contest hammered each other over job creation and Social Security on Wednesday night, as Rick Perry got his first chance to articulate his campaign message on the national debate stage.

The Texas governor sparred early and often with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, whom he has overtaken as front-runner since joining the race a month ago. With Perry trying to defend that position and Romney trying to reclaim it, the two came armed with zingers to take each other down a peg.

"Michael Dukakis created jobs three times faster than you did, Mitt,” Perry quipped, in a stinging reference to the former Massachusetts governor who lost the presidential election to George H.W. Bush.

Romney immediately shot back that “George Bush and his predecessors created jobs at a faster rate than you did”... (READ MORE)
