Coalition Guest Commentary - Rep. John Carter: Examining the Evidence on Health Care Reform

There was an old country judge that had the highest criminal conviction rate in the state. When a reporter from the state capital came down to investigate this judicial phenomenon, the judge explained that he simply instructed the jury to listen very carefully to what the prosecutor had to say, then make their decision. The reporter cried indignantly, "Don't you also tell them to listen to the defense?" The judge replied, "Well, I used to, but it just confused ‘em."

20 years as a Texas judge taught me a few things about listening to both sides of an argument. In most cases, both sides truly think they're right. Then they start presenting arguments and evidence to try to prove their case. Naturally, neither side will present anything remotely supportive of their opponent, even if they know it's true. So as a judge, you sit there and weigh the evidence presented by all with a grain of salt, knowing that either side is capable of stretching the limits of veracity and withholding relevant information if not in their favor.

Capitol Hill Update: Obama's Czar Van Jones thinks "Bush caused 9-11"

It was unanimous amongst liberal and conservative talking heads on Bret Baier's Fox News show last evening, that Barack Obama's Green Jobs Czar, Van Jones, will be toast by, or at the very least, should be toast by Monday. On Sean Hannity's show last night, a former staffer of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says he should voluntarily resign. What did this "wack job," as one of the talking heads described him, do to deserve this prediction?

Television talk show host Glenn Beck has revealed a lot of alarming things about Van Jones for a number of weeks. For example, Van Jones - an avowed communist, who named his son after a radical communist icon - has said many bizarre things about wealth redistribution, Americans poisoning immigrants coming across the border with Mexico; that white polluters are "steering poison into people of color communities" and on and on.

Obama using the CIA to re-shuffle the political deck

It's time for some honesty in the current debate over the CIA's interrogation methods of terrorists. The argument isn't really over whether we were too harsh, given that even Obama has said we would continue turning terrorists over to other governments, knowing full well that those guys play rougher than we do.

It's all about politics.

Capitol Hill Update: Obama's indoctrination of school children

Can you imagine what would have happened if President George W. Bush or President Ronald Reagan had announced that they would be addressing the nation's schoolchildren (kindergarten up to high school) in America to urge children to support their tax cut programs, or welfare reform programs, or to consider volunteering for the United States military services? The left-wing mainstream news media in this country would have gone utterly mad and would have stopped the plan before it came to fruition.

For the first time in history, a president, Barack Obama, is going to do exactly that next Tuesday and his Department of Education has provided the schools with propaganda backing up what he will say in his speech. Such as, how children can write a paper saying how they will do volunteer work; how their parents and other family members can do volunteer work; and on and on.
