As Christian Coalition of America Predicted, 30 States Have Now overwhelmingly Banned Homosexual "Marriages" as California, Florida and Arizona hand Pro-family Movement Huge Victories last Tuesday

All the abominable homosexual "marriages" in California are now null and void as California citizens voted by a large majority (52% to 47%)  to ban homosexual "marriages."  Thus the over fifteen thousand homosexual "marriages" which came about since early this year after 4 judicial dictators on the California Supreme Court in a one-vote margin decision declaring such "marriages" legal will be treated as if they never existed.  Even though Obama beat McCain in California 61 to 36%, yet the homosexual lobby which spent tens of millions of dollars, far outnumbering the money spent by the pro-family forces, suffered a huge loss.

The voters in Florida and Arizona voted overwhelmingly to ban homosexual "marriages" and to keep marriage as an institution between only one man and one woman.  The amendments passed in Florida with 62% approval and in Arizona with 57% approval.  In Florida, 71% of black Americans and 68% of Hispanic Americans, voted to ban homosexual "marriages."   It was a sweeping victory for the pro-family movement.

The President of the Christian Coalition of America, Roberta Combs said on Wednesday following the victories in California, Florida and Arizona:  "The American people are proud of their fellow citizens in the states of California, Florida and Arizona for upholding traditional marriage between one man and one woman.  Christian Coalition of America will continue to fight to ensure that government serves to strengthen and preserve, rather than threaten, our families and our values."

Thus far, 30 states have outlawed homosexual "marriages" by an average close to 70% approval by voters through amendments to the state constitutions.  In addition, the voters in Arkansas on Tuesday approved a measure banning unmarried couples from serving as adoptive or foster parents. It will be the goal of Christian Coalition to ensure that the other 20 states adopt similar amendments banning homosexual "marriages" including the states of Massachusetts and Connecticut which also had two judicial decisions, by one vote margins, legalizing these abominations.

ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES!

Pro-family movement also Suffers Some Losses including Pro-Life Losses - Washington State becomes 2nd State to Legalize Euthanasia

The voters in South Dakota refused to pass a measure for the second time in two elections to ban most abortions.  The ballot initiative in 2006 would have banned all abortions except to save the life of the mother and the 2008 ballot initiative would have banned all abortions except to save the life of the mother and in the cases of rape and incest.  Unfortunately, South Dakota's Measure 11 failed by margin of 55-45% on Tuesday night.

The pro-life movement suffered a narrow defeat in even left-wing California when the ballot initiative, Proposition 4, to allow parents the opportunity to know when their minor daughters are considering an abortion went down to defeat by a margin of 52-48%.

In Colorado, Amendment 48 which would have defined a "person" from the point of egg fertilization, commonly called the personhood amendment, failed by a margin of nearly 3 to 1.  Colorado would have been the first such state to pass such a constitutional amendment.  It probably would have been better to begin passing such amendments in a more conservative state.

In Michigan, Proposition 2, allowing the destruction of human stem cell embryos, passed by a margin of 52% to 48%.  And yet, human embryonic stem cell destruction has produced no successes after billions of Americans' tax dollars have been spent on useless research.  It is expected that the Obama/Pelosi/Reid troika will get Congress to pass a bill wasting even more federal tax dollars to promote such immoral and useless research.  It would behoove them to increase funding for adult stem cell research which has had huge successes in providing cures for countless diseases over the past few years.

Even in the extremely left-wing secular city of San Francisco, some commonsense actually prevailed when a measure to condone prostitution failed by a very large majority. Proposition K would have prevented police officers from enforcing prostitution laws and funding for outreach programs to prostitutes to leave that lifestyle would have been cut back.

Finally, another defeat for the pro-family and pro-life movement, was the passage of the abominable ballot initiative in the liberal state of Washington, legalizing assisted suicide, joining their fellow left-wing state, Oregon, as the only states to do so.  The pro-killing forces outspent the pro-life forces by a margin of 12-1, mostly out-of-state money according to LifeNews.com.

Christian Coalition of America Urges Justice Anthony Kennedy to Provide some Commonsense to Protect Children as he and other Justices Consider the Case:  FCC v. Fox Television Stations

Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, a Reagan appointee to the United States Supreme Court, has the opportunity to provide the grown-up vote in a case argued before the nation's top court this week.  The case is FCC v. Fox Television Stations Inc. and it involves several instances in which the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) concluded that "fleeting" uses of vulgar words were indecent.  "The Washington Times" reported on Monday in a front-page article entitled "TV networks battle FCC indecency rules" that attorneys for the federal government will face off against four large television networks before the Supreme Court over regulation of profanity on the public airwaves, marking it the first time in 30 years that the Supreme Court has considered broadcast indecency rules.

Christian Coalition of America played a major role a couple years ago in getting passed into law a bill sponsored by the Chairman of the Senate Values Action Team, Senator Sam Brownback, R-KS, and Congressman Fred Upton, R-MI, who authored the "Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act," which increased by a factor of ten fines for broadcasting obscene, indecent, or profane material from $37,500 for each violation of indecency to $375,000 for each violation of indecency. The "Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act" was signed into law by President George W. Bush in June 2006 in a signing ceremony in the White House attended by a number of us from Christian Coalition.

Unfortunately, the FCC has been slow in using the tools which Congress gave them, including going after more of these television networks for pushing the envelope during the past few years.  The FCC and its government attorneys argued on Tuesday before the nation's top court that its policy prevents broadcasters from "having free rein to air curse words at any time of day."

And Fox Television, NBC, etc  --  two of the main antagonists to the FCC in the Supreme Court hearing on Tuesday -- of course have pushed the envelope as much as they could in the past decades ignoring the millions of children watching throughout the day.  "The Washington Times" reported today that the most notable example of their recklessness involved the January 2003 broadcast of the Golden Globe Awards on NBC.  "Accepting the award for best original song, singer [Cher] Bono said, 'This is really, really [expletive] brilliant.'"

The FCC also cited Fox Television for two separate broadcasts of the Billboard Music Awards to be indecent.  In 2002, Cher Bono, again exhibiting her vulgar self, said about her critics:  "[expletive] 'em."  In 2003, Nichole Richie, another Hollywood hack, asked the television audience at the Billboard Music Awards broadcast:  "Have you ever tried to get cow [expletive] out of a Prada purse?  It's not so [expletive] simple."  However, the FCC did not levy fines according to "The Washington Times."

As usual, the Supreme Court is expected to be divided along cultural lines with left-wing Justices John Paul Stevens, David Souder (President Bush 41's biggest mistake during his administration), and Clinton appointees Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer lining up with the smut-producers.  Against them will probably be Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito, both appointed by the current President Bush, along with conservative pro-family stalwarts Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas.  Once again, Justice Anthony Kennedy has an opportunity to provide the grown-up vote and to vote for the protection of America's children.  We hope and pray that he will do so when the court's decision comes down later this year.

Senator Jim DeMint, the Senate Republican Steering Committee Chairman, Urges Republicans in the Senate to Block any of Obama's Extreme Circuit Court of Appeals Judicial Nominees

The American people are sick and tired of left-wing judges legislating from the bench and dictating to American citizens their anti-God and socialist policy preferences.  Proof of the American people's rejection of these left-wing judges was evidenced yet again in Tuesday's elections when even liberal California voters, joined the voters in Florida and Arizona in overwhelmingly rejecting the preferences of judges (in Massachusetts, in California and now in Connecticut) for homosexual "marriages."

Americans surely do not want Barack Obama to put on the federal courts extreme left-wing judges.  The Chairman of the Senate Republican Steering Committee, Senator Jim DeMint from South Carolina, noted in "Roll Call" this week that Democrats successfully used the Senate chamber to block several of President George W. Bush's nominees to the United States Circuit Court of Appeals, such as Miguel Estrada who finally had his nomination withdrawn.

It was noted that Obama and his fellow liberal Democrats in the Senate would attempt to pack the lower courts with extreme left-wingers.  Senator DeMint said that "They're going to come back and try to fill those seats. ... If Republicans don't make up their mind to stop this, we're going to lose ground we can't make up for generations. I think its going to be a key issue."

Curt Levey from the Committee for Justice said this week that "GOP senators must unite in principled opposition, especially where the vacancy is the result of Democratic obstruction under President Bush.  As (Senator) DeMint suggests in the ("Roll Call") article, judges are one of the key issues on which the Senate's GOP leadership must boldly step up to the plate.

"Nonetheless, Republicans should give Obama a chance to disprove their worst fears.  As is true on many issues, we don't yet know if Obama's selection of judges will reflect his liberal heart or his non-partisan promises.  Moreover, to select nominees for obstruction first and ask questions later would be to commit to the distortion of their records and the politics of personal destruction.  Those tactics worked pretty well for Democrats these last eight years, but GOP opposition to nominees should be more principled."

Senator Sam Brownback Calls for Enforcement by the Federal Communications Commission for the Television Networks - He Cites New Study Linking TV and Teen-age Pregnancies

Senator Sam Brownback this week commented on a new government-sponsored study linking teenagers’ exposure to sexual content on TV and teen pregnancies.  The study, released earlier this week, found that teens exposed to high levels of sexual content on television were twice as likely to be involved in a pregnancy when compared to teens with limited exposure.

Senator Brownback said:  "This study is just the latest evidence that enforcing existing broadcast decency laws is important.  While parental supervision is vital, it is imperative that the networks be held accountable for violating the public trust in flouting the broadcast decency law.  Networks have been pushing the boundaries of prime-time content just as the Supreme Court is poised to rule on the question of broadcast decency for the first time in three decades.  This shows how crucial it is for the Court to strongly uphold the law, and for the FCC to vigorously enforce it.  Congress has given the FCC sufficient authority to enforce broadcast decency law, and they should begin to use that authority.”

Senator Brownback, as noted previously in this newsletter, has long called for stronger ratings for music, television and video games specifically for violence and sexual content, and worked with Senators  Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and Joe Lieberman (I-CT) to begin a study on the effects of media on children’s mental and physical health.  Brownback also authored the Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act, which increased by a factor of ten fines for broadcasting obscene, indecent, or profane material.  He also has called on the entertainment industry to protect the family hour of television and voluntarily improve ratings systems.
