Rep. Graves, Sen. Snowe Statement on Small Business Health Care Tax Credit GAO Report
House Small Business Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO) and Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee Ranking Member Olympia J. Snowe (R-ME) issued the following statement on Monday regarding a GAO report they requested, which shows the ineffectiveness of the health care tax credit for small businesses:
“As we honor America’s small firms during National Small Business Week, it is discouraging that so many small companies are still burdened by compliance with the health care law,” said Congressman Graves and Senator Snowe. “The President claimed that the health care tax credit would help small businesses deal with the weight of this massive law, but, according to this study, it has been grossly ineffective. This GAO report confirms that many small firms haven’t claimed the tax credit because it is too complex and its temporary nature didn’t provide a significant solution to their long term compliance problems – a regrettable, but all too foreseeable conclusion"... The results show an obvious shift since 2001, when researchers found pro-choicers represented the majority... (READ MORE)

Are Words Important? A Thousand to One Say Yes.
To make a point I would like to go back to the time, months ago, when we all listened to media reports about IDF soldier, Gilad Shalit’s, release from captivity. We heard of his “capture” by armed Palestinian gunmen who, in more accurate terms, were Palestinian terrorists. Furthermore, the term “captured” was a complete and intentional misnomer used by the anti-Israel media. Gilad Shalit was kidnapped in 2006, not “captured,” and his two IDF comrades were murdered, not “killed in the conflict.”
The word “captured” creates in the mind of the public images of a soldier who is actively engaging the opposition. Gilad Shalit was simply a soldier out on border patrol. He was on Israeli soil when he was kidnapped and taken hostage.
Gilad’s release came at a very, very high price to Israel, but this is a testimony to the value Israelis place on the life of one person... (READ MORE)
