Pro-Life Senators' Open Letter to Obama

Dr. Coburn and 35 U.S. Senators recently sent the following letter to President Obama expressing “grave concern about the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) recent proposal to rescind the January 2009 rule clarifying conscience protections for Americans serving in the health care field.”  As many of you know, Dr. Coburn, and many pro-life physicians, will go to jail before complying with these new regulations.

Dear President Obama:

We write with grave concern about the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) recent proposal to rescind the January 2009 rule clarifying conscience protections for Americans serving in the health care field.  Let us be clear, this regulation is not about whether or not abortion should or should not be allowed in America.  This regulation is about whether we will respect the deeply held moral convictions of those who have dedicated their lives to protecting the life and the health of others.

As you know, physicians and other health care providers are professionals who make judgments based on medical expertise and ethical standards.  To compromise their right to practice according to ethical standards and conscience could reduce medical professionals to mere vending machines for medical procedures.  Every physician and health care provider has a great responsibility to ensure that individual health care decisions are made in the best interest of their patients.  Compromising the right of conscience will ultimately harm the best interest of patients... Bipartisan Bill puts Patients First

Democrat Congressman Daniel Lipinski and Republican Congressman J. Randy Forbes have joined together in an increasingly partisan Washington D.C. to sponsor "The Patients First Act," H.R. 877. Their bill will prioritize stem cell research toward treating and curing patients. The Forbes/Lipinski bill promotes research and human clinical trials using stem cells that show the most potential of providing clinical benefit and are ethically obtained.

Congressman Forbes referred to a chart showing the difference in benefits from adult stem cells in human patients versus the so-called benefits in embryonic stem cells from peer-reviewed studies. There have been ZERO benefits from the politically-correct human embryonic stem cell destruction research. On the other hand, there have been cures and successful treatments of an astounding 73 diseases using adult stem cells... (Read More)

Stand Up for Traditional Marriage

The attacks on traditional marriage by our government continue.

The Obama administration has announced that it will endorse a United Nations resolution that will affirm the “principle of non-discrimination” against homosexuals.  This resolution (opposed by the Bush administration) extends not only to “sexual orientation”, but to “gender identity” and could interfere with state laws against gay marriage and the federal ban on homosexuals in the military.

Senators Need to Support the Resolution Commemorating Paul M. Weyrich

I had the privilege of knowing my friend, Paul M. Weyrich, for many years having worked with him on many pro-family issues and in the political arena. His passing has left a deep hole in the conservative movement and we will miss him very much.

Christian Coalition of America is encouraging Senators to sponsor a Resolution sponsored by Senator Jim Inhofe from Oklahoma, S. Res. 79, honoring the life of Paul M. Weyrich and expressing the condolences of the Senate on his passing.

Senator Inhofe's resolution notes that Mr. Weyrich was the first president of the Heritage Foundation and that he was a pioneer of the modern conservative movement... (Read More)

Black Pastor Jailed for Excercising First Amendment Rights

Americans' religious rights and First Amendment rights continue to be eroded as evidenced by the jailing of a black pastor from a Berkeley, California church last week. He was the first person convicted -- two months ago -- under Oakland's law preventing pro-life protesters from coming within 8 feet of anyone entering an abortion clinic.

The Union City pastor, Walter Hoye, received a $1,000 fine, 30 days in jail (although in the future pro-lifers can be actually be put in jail for up to two years) and 3 years' probation. This courageous pastor told the judge: "I believe that an unjust law is no law at all." Pastor Hoye even answered Alameda Superior Court Judge Hing's question of whether or not he would abide by an order to stay 100 yards away from the Oakland abortion clinic with a principled "No"...
