Left-wing activist judge is Obama's first judicial pick

If there was any doubt that Barack Obama intends to turn the federal judiciary into a left-wing activist one, those doubts were put to rest in Obama's decision today to appoint as his first judicial nominee, David Frank Hamilton, a judicial activist judge hostile to Christianity and a radical on abortion. Hamilton was nominated to the 7th United States Circuit Court of Appeals.

In 1994, Bill Clinton nominated Hamilton to be a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana and he was confirmed by the Senate by the Democrat-controlled Senate. Even the liberal American Bar Association gave Hamilton a "not qualified" rating at the time. And this is the guy who Obama chose for his first judicial nominee to the next highest court under the United States Supreme Court... (Read More)

Guest Commentary - 'Where is the fiscal restraint?

by Congressman Joe Pitts

"This will not be easy.  It will require us to make difficult decisions and face challenges we've long neglected."

- President Obama, during his summit on fiscal responsibility at the White House.

In spite of the rhetoric from the President, government spending is completely out of control in Washington.  As American families across the country cut back and tighten their belts, Washington has cut loose and is spending like there is no tomorrow.

Just this year, we authorized the second tranche of TARP funds at a cost of $350 billion.  Next came the $787 billion so-called stimulus plan, which Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid took as an opportunity to further their policies that have little to do with creating jobs.  Then, just two weeks later, Congress passed a $410 billion “omnibus” appropriations bill for the rest of this fiscal year.  And now we see the proposed multi-trillion dollar budget for next year... Join the campaign to stop FOCA

A leading Democrat in Congress has stated that they intend to introduce the radical pro-abortion “Freedom of Choice Act” (FOCA) “Sooner, rather than later”.  FOCA would overturn all current state and federal restrictions on abortion.  No more waiting periods.  No more parental consent.  No more ban on partial-birth abortions.

Tens of thousands of pro-life Americans worked and sacrificed for years to make the few gains we’ve made in fighting abortion.  We cannot allow these hard fought victories to be erased.

Please help us give the unborn a voice and join our campaign to “Stop FOCA” today.

Court victory for moment of silence (including silent prayer)

On Monday, a 3-judge panel from the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans ruled that the Texas law allowing moment of silence following the Pledge of Allegiance in school classes -- including the opportunity for silent prayer, reflection, meditation -- was constitutional. Besides Texas, 25 other states have moment of silence laws.

The Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott in a press release following the court's decision said: "The United States Constitution plainly protects young Texans' right to observe a moment of silence before school each morning. In an age where children are bombarded with distractions, beginning each school day with a moment of silence offers a welcome moment of quiet contemplation"... (Read More)

"Budget spends Too Much, Taxes Too Much, Borrows Too Much"

The Republicans in Congress -- most of them anyway -- seem to singing off the same song-sheet regarding Barack Obama's beyond-this-world gargantuan 3.6 trillion dollar budget for next year. Their theme in describing Obama's budget, which Nancy Pelosi's and Harry Reid's left-wing Congress is expected to endorse (or even increase) is: "It spends too much; it taxes too much and it borrows too much."

Now if the Republican Party wants to duplicate its success when two other Democrat presidents governed from the left -- Lyndon B. Johnson in 1965 and Bill Clinton in 1993 -- and the Republicans act like the small-government, low-taxing party it is supposed to be, it might have a chance to even take over one of the chambers of Congress next year (not the Senate of course)... Obama's prevarications

Barack Obama made hundreds of promises during his presidential campaign including some really major ones. Many have said that he prevaricated on some of the major ones. The following are but a few of these "broken promises."

Obama ran as a centrist-liberal presidential candidate (emphasizing that 95% of Americans would get tax cuts, etc.).

Reality: Obama is governing as a left-wing (some say socialist) radical president. In less than 50 days, he and his Democrat Congress have spent an incredible $1.2 trillion in pork-filled spending. It will cost Americans $24 billion a day. And he recently proposed a whopping $3.6 trillion budget on top of that. Obama will incur -- while he is in office -- more debt than that incurred by all former presidents put together; from President George Washington to President George W Bush... (Read More)

Pro-life students charged with trespassing on their own campus

Normally, when one thinks of trespassing, you think of someone illegally being somewhere they have no right to be, or where they just don't belong.  You don't think of college students being in a public area on their own campus.

It turns out the you can get charged with trespassing at the University of Calgary if you set up a pro-life display - even if you're a student.  Six such students have been charged with trespassing after the University initially approved their display, then seemingly changed course after administrators didn't like the graphic nature of the display.  In other words, the difference between trespassing and not trespassing is the nature of your views...
