Senate Republicans Bring U.S. Senate to Near Stop over Democrats' Broken Promise on Allowing Votes on President Bush's Judicial Nominations

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Democrat from Nevada, broke his promise to the Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (KY) to allow votes on 3 of President George W. Bush's Circuit Court of Appeals nominees before the Memorial Day vacation. As a result, Leader McConnell stopped the debate on a global warming bill on Wednesday and forced the Senate Clerk to read every word of the 491-page bill as a protest "to give the majority time to contemplate and consider the importance of keeping your word."

Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid said on April 15, 2008: "I will do everything within my power to get three judges approved to our circuit courts before the Memorial Day recess. Who knows, we may even get lucky and get more than that. We have a number of people from whom to choose."

The Democrat leader also has refused to keep his word on confirming 15 appeals court nominees which is the average a president gets confirmed with the opposite party in control of the Senate. Thus far, the Democrats have confirmed only 8 of President Bush's judicial nominations to the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and they confirmed only one of the 3 they promised would be confirmed before their long Memorial Day vacation. The Republican Senate in Bill Clinton's last 2 years confirmed 15 of his appeals court judges.

President George W. Bush said this week: "Congress needs to confirm the good men and women who have been nominated to important government positions. There are now more than 350 nominations pending before the Senate. These include highly qualified people I have nominated to fill vacancies on the Federal bench."

"Senate Republican Leader McConnell said, "The Republican Conference will continue to make the point that judicial nominations need to be treated fairly, and that commitments in this body need to be kept." He added that: "We are far behind the pace that is necessary for us to reach the goal that the Majority Leader and I set for this Congress. If that weren’t troubling enough, what we have heard recently by the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee are threats to shut down the confirmation process completely. Surely, that is not his plan."

A Member of the Senate Judiciary Committe, Senator John Cornyn, R-TX said: "The Senate majority party has made promises and commitments on judges, yet continually fails to live up to its word. We will hold them accountable and make sure they act on the pending judicial nominations.

"Many exceptionally well-qualified nominees have been blocked for far too long, like Peter Keisler who has been waiting 700 days for an up-or-down vote. The majority party’s record of confirming judicial nominees is at historically low levels. This is unfair to the nominees, harmful to the federal judiciary and an abdication of the Senate’s constitutional duty.

"It is becoming increasingly clear that the majority party is interested more in rhetoric than working in good faith to confirm judicial nominees. They are attempting to run out the clock in hopes of a Democratic President appointing hard left, judicial activists in 2009. We will not let this happen."

Four Judicial Tyrants on California's Supreme Court Once Again Ignore the Overwhelming Will of Californians and Allow Homosexual "Marriages" to Proceed on June 17 - Thankfully, California Citizens Will Undoubtedly Vote to Void all of these Abominable "Marriages" in November by a Large Majority

On Wednesday, 4 judicial tyrants on the Supreme Court of California, led by Chief Dictator Ron George, for a 2nd time in a month, voted 4-3 (again a 1 vote margin) to ignore the will of the overwhelming majority of Californians and issued a diktat that homosexual "marriages" begin on June 17th. The 3 other California dictators on the court are Justices Joyce Kennard, Kathryn Werdegar, and Carolos Moreno.

The Attorneys General in 9 states (Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Michigan, Nebraska, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Utah), had urged the California Supreme Court justices not to allow homosexual "marriage" until the November election when the people could decide. However these 4 judicial tyrants -- legislating from the bench -- totally ignored the pleas of these attorneys general and the vast majority of Americans who are against these abominable "marriages."

Thankfully, the Secretary of California, Debra Bowen, certified the California Marriage Protection Act, for the November 2008 ballot, which will declare any "marriage" between homosexuals to be null and void; unlawful. Undoubtedly, the citizens of California will follow the citizens in the previous 27 states which have passed constitutional amendments outlawing these abominable "marriages."

Indeed, these 27 state amendments have received an average approval of 70%. The Amendment to the California Constitution on November's ballot states: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California."

When a left-wing newspaper in New Jersey, the "Bergen Record," a paper the Soviet Union's "Pravda" would have been proud of, editorialized that the decision by the 4 California Supreme Court justices, in a 4-3 decision legalizing homosexual "marriage" in California was "democracy," New Jersey Republican Assemblywoman Alison Littell McHose scoffed at the newspaper's definition of democracy.

Assemblywoman McHose said: "First, let's get our definitions right. Democracy is “a system of government by which political sovereignty is retained by the people and either exercised directly by citizens or through their elected representatives” (from Wikipedia). In the case of California and the same-sex marriage ban, the sovereignty of the people was overturned by four appointed members of the California Bar...."

Senator Barack Obama said he "respects" the California Supreme Court's decision top allow homosexual "marriages." On Tuesday, Senator John McCain said regarding the California Secretary's decision to allow California citizens and not 4 judicial tyrants to decide what the definition of marriage is for California: "I welcome the news that the people of California will have the opportunity to decide on the question of the definition of marriage, rather than having that decision made by judicial fiat as the California Supreme Court asserted in their recent ruling."

And Senator McCain's spokesman, Tucker Bounds, said after the infamous California Supreme Court 4-3 decision in May allowing homosexual "marriages" in California: "John McCain supports the right of the people of California to recognize marriage as a unique institution sanctioning the union between a man and a woman, just as he did in his home state of Arizona. John McCain doesn’t believe judges should be making these decisions."

The Virginia Court of Appeals Hands Pro-Family Movement a Victory as the Court Refuses to Allow A Lesbian Visitation Rights to a Child Over the Objections of the Child's Biological Mother

The Virginia Court of Appeals handed a defeat to the homosexual movement when they unanimously refused to grant visitation rights to a child by a lesbian over the objections of the child's biological mother. The Court issued a 3-0 decision in the Stadter v. Siperko case.

Homosexual "marriage" advocates have used the "de facto" or "psychological" parent doctrine to undermine the institution of marriage and to weaken the child-rearing rights of parents. Indeed, some other state courts have granted parental rights to homosexuals or others who are not biologically or legally related.

Senator Jim DeMint Co-authors Book -- Why We Whisper -- Outlining How Our Own Government Encourages and Protects Destructive Behavior by Our Citizens - Our Government has made it "Right" to Act in Ways that Hurt Our Culture and Our Country

Senator Jim DeMint, Republican from South Carolina, has co-authored with Dr. J. David Woodard, a book entitled Why We Whisper, which gives many examples of how our own government is promoting costly and destructive behavior. The authors say that by encouraging and protecting destructive behavior by our citizens, our government has made it "right" to act in ways that hurt our culture and our country.

Senator DeMint and Dr. Woodard say that our government has effectively taken away our right to say that some things are "wrong." This is a clear violation of the freedom of speech for Americans who hold traditional views. And this is "why we whisper" when we say that some things are just plain wrong.

They go on to say that their book will give Americans the information they need to join the battle for our culture in America. Their book suggests a number of solutions, including encouraging Americans to speak out when government or its surrogates try to muzzle our freedoms.

Rush Limbaugh said about Senator DeMint's and Dr. Woodard's book: "As one whose career is rooted in the First Amendment, I know how government imposition can strip Americans of our precious freedom of speech. Big government liberalism and a decline in our culture must be stopped. For ammunition in the fight ahead, read Why We Whisper."

Republican Conference Chairman, Lamar Alexander, Declares that the Democrats' Federal Budget, Approved by Congress this week, Will Hit American Family Budgets with a $2,300 Tax INCREASE - Democrat Budget Includes Largest Tax Increase in U.S. History

After passing a bloated pork-filled 1/3 TRILLION Farm Bill for multi-millionaires last month, the Democrat-controlled 110th Congress passed their budget bill which includes the largest tax increase in American history! Indeed, the average American family budget will be hit by the Democrats with a whopping $2,300 tax increase if the Republican tax cuts from 2001 and 2003 are allowed to expire. Other features of the Democrat budget include a $1.2 TRILLION tax INCREASE; $210 BILLION spending INCREASE: 2 TRILLION INCREASE in the national debt by 2013.

The Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, Lamar Alexander, TN, said about the multi-trillion Democrat budget passed this week by both the House and Senate: "This plan will wreck the family budgets of 43 million American households with an average tax increase of $2,300 apiece. At a time when gas prices are reaching $4 per gallon, the housing market is in a slump, and the economy is suffering, Congress shouldn’t be heaping more taxes on families, but should instead be lowering health insurance costs, keeping taxes low, and creating jobs and opportunities for all Americans." "

Senator Alexander went on to say: "We've been hearing a lot of talk about change this year, but a real change would mean lower taxes, less wasteful spending, and more attention on the family budget. I’m disappointed the Democratic leadership proposed a budget that is bad for Tennesseans and for millions of Americans who are looking for relief."

Democrat-controlled Senate (now with all-time historic low approval rating of 11%) Refused to Allow Vote on Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell's Gas Price Relief Amendment - Since Democrats Took Control of Congress, a Gallon of Gasoline has INCREASED an Astounding $1.65 per Gallon

Yesterday, the Democrat-controlled United States Senate -- which has the lowest appoval rating, along with the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives (11% approval rating) in American history, by far -- refused to vote on an amendment, sponsored by the Senate Republican leader, Mitch McConnell (KY), to the Barbara Boxer Climate Tax Increase bill. The McConnell Amendment would have provided gas price relief for all Americans.

The Democrats refused a vote on the McConnell Amendment, even though they had promised the American people in 2006 that if they would give the Democrats control of Congress again, the Democrats would decrease the price of energy. Yet, the price of a gallon of gasoline since the Democrats took control of Congress in January of last year, has increased by an astounding $1.65 per gallon: from $2.35 to $4.00 per gallon today nationwide.

Republican Leader McConnell blasted the Democrat leadership yesterday saying that the Democrat leadership have: "repeatedly blocked efforts to increase production of American energy here at home — as recently as last month, when 48 Democrat senators voted against the American Energy Production Act. And now, at the beginning of the summer driving season, it offers a bill that would send up gas prices another 53 cents a gallon. The people in Kentucky are paying on average $3.92 a gallon this week.

"They want to know what in the world is going on around here. I’m telling them to look at what’s going on here this week. I'm asking the same question they are: Why on earth are we considering a bill that would raise gas prices even higher than they already are? Our friends on the other side have no serious plan for lowering gas prices. Indeed, they seem intent on raising them even higher. Which is why I have tried offering this amendment, as a sort of ‘emergency brake’ on the Majority."

The overwhelming majority of the American people have told the United States Congress that they support exploring domestic resources of energy in order to bring down the rising cost of gas. The House of Representatives House Energy Action Team released the following statistics on the history of support and opposition in the House to developing more sources of American-made oil and gas supplies.

Regarding exploration in the barren land in ANWR, House Republicans support exploration by 91% and House Democrats OPPOSE exploration for new oil/gas sources by 86%. With regard to Outer Continental Shelf Exploration, 81% of House Republicans support and 83% of House Democrat OPPOSE such exploration. With regard to increased oil/gas refinery capacity, 97% of House Republicans support and 96% of House Democrats OPPOSE such exploration. Even the Chinese and Cuban communists are exploring off our shores in the Atlantic Ocean!

NBC's Jay Leno recently told his television audience in a not-so-funny joke that "Democrats are now saying it will take 10 years to get oil from ANWR and therefore it won't make any difference to our gasoline crisis today." Jay Leno paused. "The problem is - the Democrats said the very same thing 10 years ago today!"

Democrat Bill Clinton, when he was president, vetoed a Republican bill to drill in ANWR over 10 years ago! As a result, Americans are suffering under the burden of $4.00 per gallon gasoline and increased food prices.

Christian Coalition Activists Need to Encourage 110th Congress to Pass Both "Net Neutrality" and "Multicast-Equal Access" Legislation to Prevent Discrimination Against Religious Broadcasters - Democrat-controlled Congress Expected to Pass "Net Neutrality"

"Multicast/Equal Access" (formerly called "Multicast/Must-carry") will go a long way to preventing discrimination against religious broadcasters. Without a "Multicast/Equal Access" law, the cable and satellite companies would probably not add new Christian channels and the influence of current Christian channels will be diluted.

ACTION ITEM: Please all your Congressman at 202-225-3121 or you can go to http://www.cc.org/contactcongress.cfm and email them and urge them to co-sponsor the Net Neutrality legislation introduced by Republican Congressman Charles "Chip" Pickering and Democrat Congressman Edward Markey called the "Internet Freedom Preservation Act of 2008," H.R. 5353.
