What's Ben Nelson up to?

As everyone knows by now, Republicans now have 41 seats in the US Senate, which means that they can sustain a filibuster on issues such as ObamaCare, if they stick together. And it's this change in Capitol dynamics that has led Democrats to entertain thoughts of trying to pass ObamaCare by getting around the filibuster rule and use what are known as "reconciliation" rules...which would only require a simple majority for passage.

In order for that to happen however, the Democrat leadership would have to get at least 51of 59 Democrats go along with the extraordinary measure and, as you can imagine, some of the more "moderate" Democrats are a little skittish about doing anything that blatant - especially since the election results in Massachusetts.

But now comes word that Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson may be thinking about going along with the scheme... (Read More)

Will liberal judge overturn Californians' ban on homosexual "marriage"?

Why is it unsurprising that yet another legislating-from-the-bench federal judge presiding in San Francisco will probably issue yet another unconstitutional opinion overturning the will of the voters of California outlawing homosexual "marriage"?

Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn R. Walker has been hearing a case for the past several weeks, without a jury, brought to him by some homosexuals in San Francisco, who are seeking to overturn the constitutional ban on homosexual "marriages," approved by the voters in California in 2008. Thus far, not one state in the nation, which has allowed its citizens to vote on the matter of homosexual "marriage", has approved such an abomination.

Out of the 31 states which have given its citizens an opportunity to vote on this matter, the voters in each one of these 31 states (including California by a margin of 52% to 48%) have banned homosexual "marriages". If the remaining 19 state legislatures -- most of whom are out of tune with their voters -- allowed their citizens to vote on banning homosexual "marriages," undoubtedly each one of these states would follow the lead of the previous 31 and make homosexual "marriages" illegal in all 50 states... Woman not allowed to wear pro-life pin in National Art Gallery

This is a story that's both hard to believe and not hard to believe at the same time.

It seems that this past Saturday, a woman who had participated in the March for Life in Washington was told by security guards that she had to remove her pro-life pin that she had on from the march before she entered the building. She was told that you can't wear religious or political items in a federal building. (??) Via Lifenews:

...after searching her bag, two guards at the Gallery told her, "You're good to go in, but first you need to remove that pro-life pin"... (Read More)

Highlights from the latest polls

59% Say Cut Taxes to Create Jobs, 14% Expect Congress to Listen

The latest survey from Rasmussen shows that 59% of the American people believe that the best way to create jobs is to cut taxes. But 72% believe that Congress is more likely to raise taxes than to cut them. Only 14% are optimistic enough to think they will cut taxes. At the same time, an overwhelming majority believe that Congress will increase spending...which is like betting on the sun coming up in the morning.

How's that for confidence in "representative" government?

Republicans have largest lead on "generic ballot" in seven years

The latest test of the "generic ballot" question, (which asks voters which party they will vote for in the next congressional election), puts Republicans at 46% and Democrats at 37%. That's the highest the GOP has polled on that question in over seven years. Also, independent voters lean Republican by 46% to 24%...which goes a long way to explain why Scott Brown is now US Senator Scott Brown... (Read More)
