The growing public skepticism toward President Obama's federal takeover of American health care is a welcome reminder of the wisdom and responsibility of the American people. In a certain sense, the collapsing support for the Democrats' scheme was inevitable. After all, the initial "support" was always based on the president's gauzy aspirations rather than on the ghastly details of 800-page legislation written by a Star Wars cantina of corporate lobbyists and liberal committee chairmen.

The fact of the matter is that there never was a real base of support for the plan the president and his party favor. The American people intuitively understand that the biggest problems in our health-care system - unresponsiveness, waste, and bureaucratic headaches - are exactly the kinds of things that government makes worse. Indeed, most of the existing problems are the result of the role the government already plays in the health-care system.

The Iron Heel

Perhaps you have read Jack London's Call of the Wild and White Fang. Only recently did I read his 1908 publication, The Iron Heel. I found it amazingly contemporary. Jack London, a passionate Socialist, wrote about a developing fascist society.

In his fictional account he describes how the U. S. Government, as he saw it, in his day, was dominated by an Oligarchy which he labeled, The Iron Heel. Conservatives and Liberals Stand Up For Prisoner's Religious Freedom

In early July, a number of conservative civil rights groups joined the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), in writing a letter to the superintendent of the Rappahannock Regional Jail demanding that his jail respect the religious freedom and First Amendment rights of one of his prisoners.

In the letter sent to Superintendent Joseph Higgs, Jr., on July 9th, the ACLU - joined by Chuck Colson's Prison Fellowship group, the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, and the Rutherford Institute, among others - wrote that "based on concerns brought to our attention by Anna Williams, whose son was detained at the Rappahannock Regional Jail (the "Jail"). Ms. Williams, a devout Christian, wanted to support her son spiritually during his confinement at the Jail by sending him religious language, including passages from the Bible"... (Read More)

Obama's NEA uses tax dollars for pornographic smut

For those of us who worked in the United States Congress before and during the Republicans' 12 year control of the Congress, it seemed that whenever a Democrat occupied the White House, the pornographic smut -- paid for by hard-working American taxpayers -- just kept churning out of the National Endowment for the Arts.

Indeed, those of us working in the U.S. House of Representatives actually managed to eliminate funding altogether for the NEA one year because of such proclivities by the NEA. Of course, some of the panty-waist blue-blood Republicans in the U.S. Senate went along with the Democrats and continued to fund, and increase funding for the NEA... (Read More)
