House Speaker John Boehner said Republicans won't go along with any plans to raise taxes to help cut the federal deficit.
He said President Obama already got his tax hikes in the deal on the fiscal cliff and now it's time to talk about cutting spending.
"The American people know you can't continue to spend money that you don't have and that's what the president wants to do," Boehner said.
"The president also said in that interview that his goal wasn't merely to balance the budget," he contineud. "He talks about a balanced plan -- what's balanced about a budget that never gets to balance?"
Now even a leading liberal is questioning the high tax rates that upper-income Americans pay.
"You know what? Rich people -- I'm sure you'd agree with this -- actually do pay the freight in this country," Bill Maher recently said on his HBO show, "Real Time with Bill Maher."
"I just saw these statistics. I mean something like 70 percent," he continued. "And here in California, I just want to say liberals -- you could actually lose me. It's outrageous what we're paying -- over 50 percent. I'm willing to pay my share, but yeah, it's ridiculous."
