The Senate Armed Services Committee is voting Tuesday on President Obama's nominee for defense secretary, former Sen. Chuck Hagel.

Committee chairman Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., rejected Republican demands for more financial information on Hagel.

Hagel faces charges he's received compensation from foreign governments and from an organization called the Friends of Hamas.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee told reporters in Jerusalem Monday that Hagel needs to clear up the rumors.

During the round table meeting with the press Monday morning, Gov. Huckabee made the following statement about Hagel's nomination.

"If it proves true that the rumors of Chuck Hagel having received from the Friends of Hamas, if that's true, then on its face that would disqualify him," Huckabee said. "It's no longer an option whether he discloses all of his financial entanglements. He must because that rumor if not true, has to be dispelled."

"If true, it absolutely disqualifies him for any consideration even so much as to be a gatekeeper at a national park much less the defense secretary," he said.

Two Republicans on the committee -- Sens. Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina -- had threatened to stop Hagel's nomination.
