Obama Health Care Mandates Abortion - Commentary by Christian Coalition of America

The Dean of the pro-life movement in the United States House of Representatives, Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ), who learned at the feet of the previous dean - the late Henry Hyde (Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee during the presidency of Bill Clinton) - recently held a press conference warning all Americans about the dangerous Obama health care bill which mandates abortions, paid for with American tax dollars.

The bleak fact that 50 million unborn children have been killed since the infamous Roe v. Wade case was decided by the United States Supreme Court in 1973, will be made even more abominable if President Obama succeeds in forcing Americans to pay for all abortions in American, as mandated by his health care bill, which he is trying to ram through Congress before they go on a one-month summer vacation.

In his press conference on July 14th, with other pro-life members of Congress, Congressman Chris Smith said this about the Obama health care legislation: "Why the rush to enact Mr. Obama's exceedingly expensive, complex and potentially ruinous health care restructuring plan without the benefit of comprehensive hearings on and a through vetting of the actual bill text? Obamacare is the greatest threat ever to the lives and wellness of unborn children and their mothers since Roe v. Wade was rendered in 1973."

Congressman Smith went on to say: "Despite Mr. Obama's statement to the Pope last week that he wants to reduce abortion, the ugly truth is that his so-called health care reform bill, if enacted, will lead to millions of additional dead children and wounded mothers. Even the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute has found that 20%-35% of Medicaid eligible women who would chose abortion carry their pregnancies to term when public funds are not available.

Government funding, facilitation, promotion and mandates will cause abortion rates to skyrocket. Obamacare opens the spigot of public funding and does more to facilitate abortion than any action since Roe. This is the big one! Despite the fact that the majority of Americans don't want to fund abortion, the Obama/Dingell/Kennedy bill will nevertheless force every taxpayer and premium payer in the United States to pay for and facilitate every abortion in the country. Obamacare will absolutely mandate abortion on demand, even in private insurance plans-which will lead to many more abortions and is a reversal of current policy.

Congressman Chris Smith and the other pro-life champions at the press conference are absolutely right. Americans do not want to use their tax dollars -- especially since the majority of Americans now say they are pro-life -- to fund the abominable practice of abortion. Americans need to immediately call their Congressmen and their two Senators to demand that they vote against the Obamacare health bill.
