The backlash against the Obama administration's policy requiring church-affiliated organizations to...
Vice President
Personally, I think Governor Palin has lead an inspiring life. I think she has strong, respectable conservative values.
Well, at least I did, but now I have some doubts. As excited I am to win the White House, we cannot forget our commitment to family values.
Let's not forget that Gov. Palin has a 6 month old son who suffers from down syndrome. That little boy needs his family. He needs a father and a MOTHER. The office of the Vice President carries a 24-hour-a-day responsibility. How will Gov. Palin fulfill her duties as both the VP and as a mother?
Is that the example we want to set for future generations? Victory can not come at all costs. We cannot send the message that it is OK to put your career before your family. No responsible adult (male or female) should accept such professional responsibility when they have such a responsibility at home.
How is Mr. Palin going to care for three daughters and a 6 month old baby with a severe disability all by himself? This may sound bad to some, but it seems to me that Mrs. Palin is more concerned with her political career than her own family.
If we are going to be the party of values, then we need to live it---even when it might cost us an election.

Hi Gary,I am struggling with this one as well. I have great concerns here. I am writing an article concerning the difference between strategic and principled voting and hope to address this.As to John McCain being a Christian, I had the opportunity to meet him briefly at a conference where I was speaking last year. He was an Episcopalian before going to North Phoenix Baptist Church, where he has been for 15 years. It may be that he was baptized as an infant and considers this sufficient. One thing I do know is that the Lord is in control here.

Speaking on a personal basis, as for myself, it seems that sometimes the best we can do is vote for the one that best respresents us and our political views.. and often, that's as good as it's going to get for us.
I mean, it's hard enough finding a candidate that we can nail down simply on cut and dry political policy positions (try saying that three times, fast) that closely match our own deep beliefs. I doubt I'll ever be so lucky to find a candidate that perfectly matches my beliefs as a Christian - and when I do, that isn't going to perfectly match the doctrinal beliefs of the Catholic, Presbyterian, etc.. on down the line per THEIR personal beliefs. So, SOMEBODY isn't going to be happy along those lines of thinking.
So, just speaking for myself, sometimes we have to decide how crucial a times these are in terms of the way this country is going... and how precarious things are in the courts and the halls of congress, etc... and make those judgement calls accordingly.
With all that said, for an example, right up until Friday, for me personally, John McCain's decision as for his running mate was going to go a looooooooong way as to how supportive I could or couldn't be for him, especially with some of the 'feelers' that had been put out there. And, as I've noted, I think he hit a homerun with Palin, personally.
Hello,
I would like to ask in this forum how can McCain but considered a Christian when he says he is not born again and has not been baptised. If he is not washed in the blood, led by the spirit, and a part of the body of Christ, how can I as a Christian vote for McCain over Obama when Obama has been baptised. Psalm one : blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly.
scorpio 7691 I hope I can help you reconcile this dilemma. The first 38 years of my life I professed to be a Christian. I went to church, read the Bible periodically, prayed, etc. However, one Sunday morning I experienced the love of Jesus and the Holy Spirit and I then CONFESSED with my tongue Jesus as my Lord and Savior. What I am trying to say, and I as well as you don't know the depth of his conviction and love for the Lord. I thought I was a good Christian all those years. When I confessed Christ was when my PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP with Jesus began and my life was transformed. For all those years I thought I was a good Christian I was a Carnal Christian, could John McCain be also?
As for Senator Obama, even though he has been baptized, his own words tend to give him away. As a baptized believer how could he not say that life begins at conception? how could he support abortions and gay same sex marriages? why would he tell school children that atheists go to heaven because they are good people? Standing in a garage calling oneself a car does not make them a car no more than sitting in Church calling themself a Christian makes them a Christian. Both are probably carnal Christians, however, which one's core convictions line up with what we know is in God's Word related to homosexuality, killing of innocent lives, etc. I hope this will help you. Bottom line: Fall on your face and cry out, and wait until HE answers your prayer.
Hello Billy,
I appreciate your time. Nevertheless, I have more confidence that God will correct his own disobedient children before he corrects the Godless. I believe that is scriptural. Nevertheless, Christ speaks of the least of his and in many references throughout scriptures there is a difference between the the saved and unsaved and a difference between being a babe and sucking and being grown and eating meat. What I ask myself is am I able to choose an unsaved man over a saved man. We do good unto all men but especially those of the household of faith. To simply, I can't in all good conscience vote for McCain knowing he admits freely to not being born again and having been baptised when the other candidate has met the basic fundamentals of Christianity. Now he may need some correcting and I will pray for him that he represnets the body of Christ as he should as for us all but to say that McCain wouldn't be like a wolf in sheeps clothing isn't beyond imagination. He has no protection whatsoever in the scriptures by the blood of the Lamb. We can all be so smart sometimes but I think we should lean not on our own understanding. It usually makes things worse.
There are lots of other women who are pro life who could have been chosen...women who did NOT have and infant an other children to care for... Her decision to put her career above these children, especially this tiny, precious, needy one is not an example of "family values" in my book. He will grow up confused and totally disconnected from her if she takes this job (at least the other children will have a clue about why their mother isn't around a lot of the time). If she doesn't understand how little time she will be able to spend with him she is absolutely clueless....I feel so sorry for that little baby that I could cry.
Is Mccain a Christian? He says he is not born again nor baptised. lst's talk
I would say, we should trust Mrs Palin to know more about her own, personal family situation than to try to make those outside judgments about her from our perspectives.
This is a woman that has obviously raised four very fine children to date and has also worked for furthering the conservative movement and ideology at the same time.
She's a woman that's putting her Pro-Life, every child is precious, rhetoric into practice every single day that she raises her beautiful son and I, for one, don't think that she should now be penalized by the same people who would claim to cheer on that sort of act, just because she also happens to have a very successful career.
She's a very accomplished person that has proven that she's able to do it all and do it all, well... and most importantly, do it all well furthering the Pro-Family, Pro-Life, Pro-American agenda. So, I'm not going to start selling this amazing representative and example for women short at this time by saying, for some reason, she can't do it all, now. We need more pro-life, pro-family, Conservative female success stories such as Sarah Palin, put up as examples for our young women in America, not less.
Gary,
I am a good typist Gary but that does not qualify me to be VP. Nor does childbearing, nor does being a Governor for 18 months, nor does the fact that John McCain just admited that he wanted to appease women that use his common sense.
That's the great thing about a representative democracy.
Joe Biden's been gaining "experience" for the last 40 years in Washington, but he's been pushing some of the most liberal agenda policies of anyone not named "Kennedy" in that time. He may be more "experienced", but does that really matter when you think about how he is able to represent YOU and YOUR ideals?
Palin has been on the front lines of national energy independence and the battle waged for life, as well as fighting political corruption and easing the burdens of over-taxation on the families that she has represented over the course of her time in government. You can base your credibility of 'experience' on "time" or you can base it on "accomplishment".
I'd be willing to give Palin the advantage even over Biden, if you will give her that benefit of judging experience on the latter. But, certainly, even moreso if you even toss in how much she represents my beliefs as potential vice-president, over Biden.
Right on Gary Gore; I agree with you. Having retired from 27 years of federal government service I know and understand the difference between activity and accomplishment. You have people in Washington that are "busy" and you have people that accomplish things. Governor Palin in her short tenure has accomplished quite a bit, not to mention having a baby and being back on the job 3 days later. That is what I call DEDICATED TO SERVE. Has anyone thought about Governor Palin's husband. Chuck Colson wrote an article a number of years ago about how more and more MEN were realizing how important it was for them to spend more time with their families. Mr. Palin will have no problem being "Mr. Mom" as a matter of fact, I think he will enjoy being with his children. ( When I was off work on long term disability and my wife was the bread winner, our sons were 4 and 6 I had the opportunity to be Mr. Mom and I loved it and my sons and I spent QUALITY TIME and today they are healthy, well adjusted adults 37 and 39 yrs old)
Gov. Palin should be an inspiration to us all. She is hardworking and a rue believer in family values. She showed phenomenal courage in the debate as she battled a Washington insider. Although I normally am not a fan of pop music, the son My Way comes to mind.: perhaps we could rewrite some lines for this courageous lady--"and through it all, she stood tall and did it God's way."
