Dr. Coburn and 35 U.S. Senators recently sent the following letter to President Obama expressing “grave concern about the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) recent proposal to rescind the January 2009 rule clarifying conscience protections for Americans serving in the health care field.” As many of you know, Dr. Coburn, and many pro-life physicians, will go to jail before complying with these new regulations.

"This will not be easy. It will require us to make difficult decisions and face challenges we've long neglected."
- President Obama, during his summit on fiscal responsibility at the White House.
In spite of the rhetoric from the President, government spending is completely out of control in Washington. As American families across the country cut back and tighten their belts, Washington has cut loose and is spending like there is no tomorrow.
Is Barack Obama a socialist? That subject has been much bandied about since the Obama administration has been spewing out left-wing programs after he was sworn into office nearly a couple months ago.
The subject of whether or not Obama is a socialist came to a head when a reporter from the "paper of record," "The New York Times" -- which incidentally is on the verge of bankruptcy -- asked him if he was a socialist? Some reporter somewhere -- at even "The New York Times" -- had to wonder what Obama's politics really are, considering that Obama is the most left-wing president in American history to win the office.
Dr. Tom Coburn, a highly principled Republican Senator from Oklahoma, still delivers babies as an obstetrician on weekends after completing business in Washington D.C. In fact, over the years, Senator Coburn has delivered some 4,000 babies. He has credibility when he denounces the Democrats' plan to get rid of President George W. Bush's regulations put into effect in January clarifying the rules for physicians and other medical personnel to refuse to do abortions, refer for abortions, etc.
Pro-abortion forces and supporters of human embryonic stem cell research continue to be caught in a time warp. Even though politicians continue to seek taxpayer funding for the immoral destruction of human embryonic stem cells in research, such research has had no success in curing diseases.
California Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger even persauded his state legislation to spend $3 billion of taxpayer funding to waste on such research. Ironically, such bloated and wasteful spending has caused California to have the worst bond rating in the nation and is now on the brink of bankruptcy with California taxpayers fleeing the state for Arizona, Nevada and other states.
The slippery slope of secular humanism continues to become even more so all around the world. We are quickly moving beyond a mere degradation of social virtues to outright hostility against religion and potential criminalization of adherents who practice their faith in their daily lives.
In recent years we have seen the Dutch government change its laws to allow euthanasia, gay marriage, infanticide of imperfect children, and most recently, the sanctioning of gay polygamous unions.
Gay marriage has become a reality in Canada and Massachusetts. For years our own governments have flirted with passage of so called "hate crimes" legislation that essentially criminalizes individual thoughts by way of adding extra penalties if biases, hatreds or intolerances are perceived in the commission of a crime.
It was wonderful to hear that Pope Benedict XVI told Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who claims to be a devout Catholic, that Catholic elected officials have a special duty to protect human life "at all stages of its development." After the House passed the stimulus bill, the Speaker and a number of other Democrat officials flew to Rome and Paris. The Pope granted her and her husband a private 15 minute meeting in a small room off the Vatican auditorium after his weekly public audience.
The Speaker, in a press release, spun the meeting as one of all harmony and "great joy." However, the Vatican, which did not issue a photograph of the meeting so as to not allow her to use such a photo in public relation opportunities -- said that the Pope spoke of the church's teaching "on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death."
Barack Obama and his congressional leaders did everything they could to persuade Americans that "time was of the essence" in passing the country's largest spending bill in American history. And they were actually able to twist enough arms -- the Republicans say deceive -- enough members of Congress to pass this bill and get it to the president's desk for his signature less than a month after Obama assumed office.
Yet, with all this haste and dire warnings about the urgency to get this bill passed, the bill sat on Obama's desk for 4 days after the Congress sent it to him. Just as bad, Obama actually took both Air Force One 747 jumbo jets to Denver to sign the bill in a key battleground state at a cost of $40,000 per hour per plane. Then after signing the bill, Obama jetted off to Arizona to do some more politicking.
Obama's Democrats' lust for power continues unabated. They control both chambers in the 111th Congress with a very large margin in the Senate. They control the White House. Yet, they want to give amnesty to 18 million plus illegal aliens and many of their family members not already in the United States. They believe that this action will provide many more Democrat votes in the future.
Left-wing Senator Debbie Stabenow, Democrat from Michigan, was reported in today's "The Politico" newspaper on Capitol Hill to want to bring "accountability" to the public airwaves, whether it's called the Fairness Standard [sic]" or "whether it's called something else."
Last year, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, San Francisco Democrat Nancy Pelosi, said that the "Fairness Doctrine" needed to be addressed in Congress. The question for Pelosi and Stabenow is, will their "Fairness Doctrine" applied to radio talk show hosts such as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham also be applied to the left-wing television news networks such as NBC, CBS and ABC?
