Non-embryonic stem cell research continues to advance

Pro-abortion forces and supporters of human embryonic stem cell research continue to be caught in a time warp. Even though politicians continue to seek taxpayer funding for the immoral destruction of human embryonic stem cells in research, such research has had no success in curing diseases.

California Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger even persauded his state legislation to spend $3 billion of taxpayer funding to waste on such research. Ironically, such bloated and wasteful spending has caused California to have the worst bond rating in the nation and is now on the brink of bankruptcy with California taxpayers fleeing the state for Arizona, Nevada and other states.

Criminalizing Faith

The slippery slope of secular humanism continues to become even more so all around the world. We are quickly moving beyond a mere degradation of social virtues to outright hostility against religion and potential criminalization of adherents who practice their faith in their daily lives.

In recent years we have seen the Dutch government change its laws to allow euthanasia, gay marriage, infanticide of imperfect children, and most recently, the sanctioning of gay polygamous unions.

Gay marriage has become a reality in Canada and Massachusetts. For years our own governments have flirted with passage of so called "hate crimes" legislation that essentially criminalizes individual thoughts by way of adding extra penalties if biases, hatreds or intolerances are perceived in the commission of a crime.

Pope Benedict XVI Reminds Speaker Pelosi of the Sanctity of Life

It was wonderful to hear that Pope Benedict XVI told Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who claims to be a devout Catholic, that Catholic elected officials have a special duty to protect human life "at all stages of its development." After the House passed the stimulus bill, the Speaker and a number of other Democrat officials flew to Rome and Paris. The Pope granted her and her husband a private 15 minute meeting in a small room off the Vatican auditorium after his weekly public audience.

The Speaker, in a press release, spun the meeting as one of all harmony and "great joy." However, the Vatican, which did not issue a photograph of the meeting so as to not allow her to use such a photo in public relation opportunities -- said that the Pope spoke of the church's teaching "on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death."

White House and congressional tax-funded boondoggles

Barack Obama and his congressional leaders did everything they could to persuade Americans that "time was of the essence" in passing the country's largest spending bill in American history. And they were actually able to twist enough arms -- the Republicans say deceive -- enough members of Congress to pass this bill and get it to the president's desk for his signature less than a month after Obama assumed office.

Yet, with all this haste and dire warnings about the urgency to get this bill passed, the bill sat on Obama's desk for 4 days after the Congress sent it to him. Just as bad, Obama actually took both Air Force One 747 jumbo jets to Denver to sign the bill in a key battleground state at a cost of $40,000 per hour per plane. Then after signing the bill, Obama jetted off to Arizona to do some more politicking.

Gregg's withdrawal as Commerce Secretary nominee -- because of census -- is a warning to Obama

Obama's Democrats' lust for power continues unabated. They control both chambers in the 111th Congress with a very large margin in the Senate. They control the White House. Yet, they want to give amnesty to 18 million plus illegal aliens and many of their family members not already in the United States. They believe that this action will provide many more Democrat votes in the future.

Will Democrats' "Fairness Doctrine" apply to NBC?

Left-wing Senator Debbie Stabenow, Democrat from Michigan, was reported in today's "The Politico" newspaper on Capitol Hill to want to bring "accountability" to the public airwaves, whether it's called the Fairness Standard [sic]" or "whether it's called something else."

Last year, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, San Francisco Democrat Nancy Pelosi, said that the "Fairness Doctrine" needed to be addressed in Congress. The question for Pelosi and Stabenow is, will their "Fairness Doctrine" applied to radio talk show hosts such as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham also be applied to the left-wing television news networks such as NBC, CBS and ABC?

Republican Leader McConnell puts kids first

The leader of the Republicans in the United States Senate, Senator Mitch McConnell from Kentucky, is to be commended for doing what he can do stop the socialization of medicine in the United States of America. Today, he introduced the Kids First Act, which also has as its original co-sponsors: Senators Jim DeMint (S.C.), Robert Bennett (UT) and John Barrasso (WY.) Senator McConnell said on the Senate floor today that the Kids First Act -- an alternative to the hugely expensive Democrat bill, which is an expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) -- puts low income children first.

Bipartisan leaders support Israel as it should be

I was pleased to see the bipartisan op-ed in Friday's "The Washington Times" by the Democrat House Majority Leader, Steny Hoyer from Maryland, and by the Republican House Minority Whip, Eric Cantor from Virginia.

They begin their column by saying:  "During this difficult war in the Gaza Strip, we stand with Israel.  Why?  Because we have been to Israel.  We have seen Sderot.  In August 2005 and again in 2007, we visited the region of southern Israel that includes this embattled Israeli border town.  Taken together, the trips helped us define the historical and military context for Israel's current action in Gaza."

Minnesota's fraud vs. Venezuela's election fraud

Recently, John R. Thomson, wrote about the voter fraud in Venezuela which he witnessed during a two week visit there while he spent time studying political, economic and social conditions.  After reading Mr. Thomson's list of election fraud committed on behalf of President Hugo Chavez and his leftist coalition in Venezuela, it reminded me of some of the shenanigans commited on behalf of the uberliberal Al Franken, Democrat Senate candidate in Minnesota.

Paul Weyrich: a champion of life

Many of us, who knew Paul Weyrich, founder of the Free Congress Foundation and Coalitions for America  --  who also helped found the Heritage Foundation (and was the first president) and the Republican Study Committee in the United States House of Representatives  --  have numerous cherished memories of him.  Mr. Weyrich passed away today at the age of 66.
