Because GOD said, Israel is.
Israel’s right to exist started long before it became recognized as a modern nation by then President of the United States Harry S. Truman in 1948. Its existence was predestined when God said to Abram “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.” Thus the everlasting covenant was established between Abram the Hebrew and God to go and establish Israel as the “Promised Land.
This was the true beginning in which a man chosen by God was called to leave his home and follow God’s call in faith to a land he had not seen; a land that had been chosen long before the earth was formed and a land destined to become great among all of the nations in the world.
Israel was formed when the Spirit of the Lord God Almighty hovered over the surface of the waters and said “let the dry ground appear.” His divine plan for Israel had already been conceived. He knew long before his call to Abram that Israel would be the apple of his eye. Israel would deliver over many millennia wonders and gifts that would significantly change the world throughout history. It has not been easy. Israel has faced extinction by many armies.
Today this tiny piece of real estate continues to find itself in the midst of hostilities that would seek to eradicate it from the face of the earth. Rogue regimes funded by Iran such as Hamas, Hezbollah and the Muslim Brotherhood promote yet another holocaust not with gas chambers but with the threat of nuclear proliferation and thousands of rockets launched within Gaza threatening the lives of over 1,000,000 Jews.
In an effort to support Israel with the ongoing problems they face there is an ever increasing growth of evangelical Christians throughout the world but more specifically a tremendous movement in the United States to assist through various forms of aid. Education is playing a key role supporting factual information through many Christian organizations striving to right the wrong of anti-Semitism and replacement theologies. There are efforts from certain print and electronic media outlets reporting a non-biased panorama the effects of global terrorism and Israel’s right to exist.
Additionally, there are organizations that are supplying aid in a tangible form to assist Israel in protecting the sovereignty of life. One such organization has developed a bullet and ballistic proof backpack to thwart the impact fragments of spent Kassam rockets hurdling shrapnel in a wide blast radius to kill and maim innocent Jewish citizens living in close proximity to Gaza.
The Shield of David, a non-profit U.S. organization comprised of Christians and Jews has been working with communities such as Ashkelon to deliver protection to young Israeli school children to promote safety and peace of mind to families who live under the constant fear of true terrorism. Certainly prayer, education and reporting are extremely important in supporting the State of Israel, but the tangible gift of protection expresses a comfort and physical need in a time when life is full of uncertainty. If a person is hungry they are in need of food. Thirst requires water and warmth requires a covering. Just as these physical needs require the adequate solution to fill a human need, safety requires protection. This past October 500 bullet proof backpacks were distributed to children living in the most vulnerable areas near Gaza. We who love freedom and democracy must not sit on the sidelines. We must press forward promoting support for Israel because we know that Israel’s evil enemies are waiting and planning Israel’s destruction and this hatred of Israel and the Jewish people is birthed from their foundation of perverted ideology towards Israel.
Millions of Evangelical Christians are standing with the Jewish nation of Israel. We, too, have a common history of belief as our spiritual birth took place in Bethlehem. We are reminded by the prophet Isaiah’s words, “I appointed watchman over you and said, listen to the sound of the trumpet.” We, as Christians, must help in sounding the trumpet for the sake of Israel.
The words of John Fitzgerald Kennedy resound to this day when he stated, “Israel was not created in order to disappear - Israel will endure and flourish. It is the child of hope and the home of the brave. It can neither be broken by adversity nor demoralized by success. It carries the shield of democracy and it honors the sword of freedom”.
We must stay the course. We must remain united with Israel - America’s greatest ally and only true friend in the Middle East.
