Government Information Documents Replace Traditional Curriculum as Feds Seize More Control of Schools

In schools across the country, traditional literature is being replaced with government informational texts.

It is the result of the Common Core standards transition from teaching literature to focusing on government provided informational documents. “English teachers across the country are trying to figure out which poetry, short stories and novels might have to be sacrificed to make room for nonfiction,” The Washington Post reported.

This is not sitting well with some teachers. Jamie Highfill, an eighth-grade English teacher in Fayetteville, Arkansas, said that she has had to ditch “some short stories and a favorite unit on the legends of King Arthur to make room for essays by Malcolm Gladwell and a chapter from ‘The Tipping Point.’ Highfill goes on to explain that with the informational texts, the human connection prominent in literature, isn’t present.  She expressed dismay over the fact that her students are bored and shutting down. “I’m seeing more behavior problems in my classroom than I’ve ever seen.”

He is loveable, congenial, giving and jolly. What's more he knows everything, as any child will readily testify. He is a colorful old man, whose visits are eagerly awaited by millions of children each year and who, for a little while, makes the world a much happier place

Is Santa Claus a good influence on children, or a bad influence whose image merely commercializes Christmas and who takes the reason out of the season, as some charge?

Where did Santa come from? It will surprise many to learn that Santa Claus (as we know him today) came out of the church itself through the charity of a very devout and caring priest. Now bear in mind that this is a true, historically documented account.

Pittsburgh’s Helen Trautman, CEO of Results Unlimited, an event planning organization and Speakers Bureau (in the process of expanding) has contributed to this column by researching clips and documentation for upcoming stories. Approaching this Christmas Season, a real dilemma was looming; how to keep in the spirit of the holidays while acknowledging the restrictions the current administration has placed on celebrating—-shhhh—Christmas.

RNC’s New Initiative to Grow the Party and Win Elections

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman, Reince Priebus, has launched an initiative focused on enlarging the Republican Party and improving future GOP campaigns.

Known as the Growth and Opportunity Project, it will be chaired by five Republican leaders who will begin by reviewing past practices and making recommendations.  The recommendations will involve the following key areas:

1) Campaign mechanics and ground game

2) Messaging

3) Fundraising

4) Demographic partners and allies

5) Third party groups

6) Campaign finance issues

7) Presidential primaries

8) Lessons learned from Democratic campaign tactics

Additionally, the coalition will extend its network out to hundreds of individuals, including RNC Members, grassroots activists, donors, elected officials, community leaders and other influential partners. The goal of this outreach is to gain insight designed to help the GOP develop a solid future path.

The Growth and Opportunity Project is co-chaired by five prominent Republican leaders:

What Fiscal Cliff?


The "fiscal cliff" that is worried about is the impending overall tax increase for every American. But you'll really see a fast downward spiral, and it's already taken the dive. The jump started when Obama first took office. Obama wants tax increases for the rich, including increases coming from tax rates jumping up after 1/1/2013, when the Bush rates expire.


Per Walter Williams: Future Generations (George Washington University), a conservative estimate of this administration's unfunded liabilities (FY 2011) is $87 trillion. That exceeds 500% of our GDP (2011) of $15 trillion.
