Congressman Price Applauds Passage of Working Families Flexibility Act
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA), commended the passage of H.R. 1406, the Working Families Flexibility Act of 2013, today saying:
“The Working Families Flexibility Act is a commonsense piece of legislation that simply guarantees private sector employees the same workplace flexibility and opportunity that government workers have enjoyed for many years. Specifically, it gives employees the opportunity to voluntarily decide to receive paid time off as compensation for overtime work – allowing, of course, that an employee could choose to continue to receive monetary compensation instead if they so desired.
“Under current labor law, moms and dads, sons and daughters are forced to miss some of life’s most precious and important moments with their friends and families – from recitals to doctor’s appointments – because they are not allowed to work out a more flexible arrangement with their employers. The federal government should not stand in the way of employers providing a much-needed benefit to their employees.
“Rep. Martha Roby and Chairman John Kline ought to be commended for their diligent efforts to safeguard workers’ rights while ensuring more Americans can put family first. Today’s passage of this bill reiterates the commitment of House Republicans to make meaningful reforms that empower the American people.”
Rep. Price, a member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, co-sponsored this bill. He also serves as the vice chairman of the House Committee on the Budget, as well as a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means.
