Taking a Look at Obama's Version of "Economic Stimulus"
Examples of pork and non-stimulus items in Obama's "stimulus" bill includes $50 million for the National Endowment for the Arts which has funded works such as "Piss Christ", $45 million for fish passage barriers and ATV trails, $2 billion for national parks, $1.2 billion for "youth activities", $448 million for a new Dept. of Homeland Security headquarters, $850 million for Amtrak
The absolute waste in Barack Obama's "stimulus" bill is astounding and has nothing to do with stimulating the economy. Obama's Chief of Staff, former Democrat Congressman Rahm Emmanuel from the Chicago area said about the financial crisis and the bloated spending by Democrats: "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste." And his Democrats in Congress have literally given away the store (American tax dollars) to every segment of their left-wing grassroots supporters.
Senator John Cornyn, the Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee said this week about the Obama bill: "But the $800 billion plan the Democrats brought to the Senate was riddled with wasteful spending and pork-barrel special interest payoffs that would have left a mountain of debt for future generations." The $800 billion has now gone way over $900 billion with new Democrat spending programs added through amendments during the past few days.
The worst of the Obama waste projects so far is the almost half billion of hard-earned American taxpayer dollars for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to screen and prevent sexually transmitted diseases. Additionally, the CDC would get close to another half billion dollars to purchase more CDC buildings and property. The Democrats are also trying to boost spending for one of the agencies with the worst history of taxpayer abuse in American history: the National Endowment for the Arts, which a Republican House of Representatives actually zeroed out when they had control. However, the Democrats gave an additional $50 million in the Obama bill to the National Endowment for the Arts which has funded works such as "Piss Christ."
Some other egregious examples of the bloated spending programs in the Obama bill which will not stimulate the economy -- a veritable pork wish list by Democrats built up during Republican control of Congress -- include $2 billion for national parks; $1.2 billion for "youth activities," $850 million more for Amtrak; $650 million MORE for the digital television converter box coupon program; $650 million for wildland fire management on forest service lands; $600 billion to buy hybrid vehicles for federal employees; $500 million for flood reduction projects on the Mississippi River; $500 million for building and repairing National Institutes of Health facilities in Bethesda, Maryland; $500 million for state and local fire stations.
In the category of less than 1/2 BILLION dollar projects in the Obama bill are: $448 million for a new Department of Homeland Security headquarters; $248 million for new furniture at the new Homeland Security headquarters; $246 million in tax breaks to buy film for left-wing Hollywood producers; $200 million for public computer centers at community colleges; $200 million in funding for the lease of alternative energy vehicles for use on military installations; $160 million for paid "volunteers" at the Corporation of National and Community Service; $150 million to insure honeybee farmers; $150 million for the Smithsonian Museum facilities; $125 million for the Washington D.C. sewer system; $110 million to the Farm Service Agency to upgrade computer systems; $100 million for reducing the hazard of lead-based paint; $88 million to renovate the headquarters of the Public Health Service; $75 million to construct a "security training" facility for State Department Security officers when they can be trained at existing facilities of other agencies; $75 million for "smoking cessation activities"; $45 million for fish passage barriers; $25 million for tribal alcohol and substance abuse reduction; $10 million to inspect canals in urban areas, etc., etc., etc..
