Senate Democrats: It's the people's money; give it to us now!
Democrat Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, a San Francisco Democrat at that, after a year of utter failure in her party's first year in control of the United States House of Representatives -- after 12 years in the minority -- which earned an all-time low of 11% approval rating, put aside her differences with President George W. Bush and her Republican counterpart, Congressman John Boehner from Ohio, and came up with the Bipartisan Economic Growth Package. The bill passed overwhelmingly by a margin of 385-35 two weeks ago. The Pelosi/Bush/Boehner economic stimulus package will return some $146 billion to the American people. It was discovered during Senate deliberations of their own bill last week, that the House bill had a major problem. Most of those who voted for the House bill were unaware of an illegal aliens loophole which actually gives benefits to illegal aliens. Of course, many Senators -- when they discovered that loophole -- were determined to delete it from the final bill to be sent to President Bush. The Senate is expected to reject the Senate Finance Committee's more expansive and expensive version and also reject the illegal aliens loophole and to pass the House version, hopefully before the end of this week. The President undoubtedly will sign a bill which mirrors the Pelosi/Bush/Boehner bill, WITHOUT the illegal aliens loophole. If the President is able to sign such a bill within the next few days, some 117 American families can expect a rebate check by the end of May. Among the provisions in the very-easy-to-understand Bipartisan Economic Growth Package passed by the House of Representatives: Most individuals who pay taxes would get $600; working couples would receive $1,200. Workers who make at least $3,000 but don't pay income taxes would get checks of $300 to $600. People in both groups would get $300 credits for each of their children, up to $1,200 per family. The Bush/Pelosi/Boehner Bipartisan Economic Growth Package also includes more generous expensing and depreciation rules for business in 2008 which help help the cash flows of these businesses. The Bush Administration last week commended the House for "taking swift, decisive bipartisan action to improve the Nation’s near-term economic outlook." And it was encouraging that President Bush is thinking about the economy's long-term prognosis as he said something self-evident: "The best thing we can do with uncertainty in the economy is make the tax cuts we passed permanent." Late on Wednesday night, the Republicans by a margin of one vote stopped Hillary Clinton, Barack Hussein Obama, and Senate Majority Harry Reid from passing a gigantic so-called stimulus package with billions of dollars of wasteful spending. So the Senate goes back to the drawing board on Thursday to try to equal the success of the House of Representatives in passing a bill. The leader of the Senate Republicans, Mitch McConnell from Kentucky said: "We can pass this legislation quickly, while ensuring that low-income seniors and disabled veterans are included in the economic growth, but those here illegally do not. Rather than working with us to finish this legislation quickly, the majority objected. Rather than finishing the bill today, the majority objected.†The Christian Coalition of America is urging left-wing Senators to stop dragging their feet and to give the 117 million Americans and small businesses their $146 billion in tax rebates and to do it NOW!
