Sen. Jim DeMint on earmark reform

The following was an email received from Senator Jim DeMint this morning:

I need your help!

You have the right to know how your money is being spent in Washington. Currently, undisclosed earmarks (federal spending on Congressional pet projects) lead to billions of dollars in hidden pork barrel spending every year. Even under Democrat Speaker Pelosiís control, the House passed a bill which required the disclosure of all earmarks on the Internet 48 hours before they are voted on. I introduced a similar measure in the Senate and after much partisan sniping from the Democrats, it passed by one vote.

But now Harry Reid is trying to gut earmark reform and keep business running as usual in Washington. He keeps making it easer and easier to hide wasteful and corrupt earmarks.

When is this going to stop?

Harry Reidís new bill is nothing more than the old bait 'n' switch, pretending to clean up the culture of corruption while protecting the Washington favor factory. His bill makes a joke of ethics reform.

Itís time to clean up corruption and bring accountability back to Washington. Will you stand with me?

Call Harry Reid today at 202-224-3542 and tell him to stop playing games with your tax dollars. It's time for full disclosure of all Congressional earmarks.

Sincerely,

Senator Jim DeMint
