Pro-abortion groups receive over 1 billion in taxpayer dollars

There's a new study out that documents just how much YOUR money Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion groups have received, courtesy of the federal government over the past seven years.

As far as Planned Parenthood goes, the figure is over six-hundred and fifty MILLION dollars. - an average of over one hundred million per year.

The report takes a look at all taxpayer supported streams of revenue making their way to the organization - from "Title X" funding for "family planning" to funds from government organizations like USAID and HHS.  The report from the government's General Accounting Office pegs the exact seven year figure at $657.1 million.

Of course, when it comes to the abortion biz, that's not it: (via Lifenews)

The report also shows the pro-abortion group Population Council, which sponsored the dangerous abortion drug RU 486, received $284.3 million in federal funds as well for its international family planning efforts. And the Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion group that does research on abortion statistics, received $12.7 million.

Advocates for Youth, another pro-abortion group, received $8.7 million from the federal government and the International Planned Parenthood Federation received $3.9 million.

Combined, the pro-abortion organizations received more than $1 billion in taxpayer dollars from the federal government over the 2002-2009 period GAO analyzed.

Again, over one BILLION taxpayer dollars.

The debate over the legality of abortion, at the federal and/or state level is one thing, but we're not even at a point of having that debate yet when the government is still forcing taxpayers that believe abortion is murder to subsidize it.  When you think about it, this is par for the course for the left, in that they not only want their way with government policy, but they want to force your acceptance of their values via everything from taxpayer funding to political discourse.  (The debate over gay marriage is another example).

Of course, this is to say nothing of the "wisdom" of the government spending this kind of money for something that so many people disagree over when we DON'T HAVE the money to begin with.
