The National Debt Is Immoral
Few people know the facts on America's current economic situation.
The National Debt is by any stretch of the imagination, staggering. Currently, every man, woman, and child in America owes 12 trillion doallrs. That is 12 followed by 12 zeros. It's very hard for the average mind to comphrehend this staggering number. In the next 10 years, that number is projected to become 22 Trillion or higher, almost doubling.
12 Trillion doallrs national debt at 4% interest = $480 billion/300,000,000 Americans = $6400 dollars paid by a family of 4, every year on just the interest alone and the debt goes up every year. There is no principle paid on the debt the way you would pay down the principle on your mortgage.
In 2020, if the deficit is lucky enough to be just 22 trillion (which is the conservative estimate the 22 trillion at 4% (modest return) = $880 billion/300,000,000 Americans = $11,800 (rounded) paid by a family of 4, every year.
What we all know is that 50% of working Americans pay almost all the taxes that in turn pay the interest on the debt, which means they shoulder the burden of interest on the debt, paid out of their pockets. However, the burden is returned to the 50% of Americans who do not pay those taxes, in the form of higher prices and stagnant or as in the case these days, lower wages, and unemployment.
To continue on with unfunded entitlements, retirement pensions, and social security, across the board, is self inflicted euthanasia for our country, suicide if you will. The national debt, in 2020 will actually be much higher just because America continues to grow it's population and in influx of illegal aliens almost equals the rate of live births in this country.
It's not the popular wave right now, but Jack Kemp made it popular in the 80s and early 90s - we NEED a flat tax on all Americans, from the very richest to the very poorest who live on entitlements. Why on the lower end? Because those people never develop an appreciation for being a productive part of society and undertaking ways to improve their situations. Yes, I know there are extenuating circumstances of the elderly and disabled. But the proper programs, of which there are hardly none, could make use of them in our society and make them productive on their level.
I have lots of ideas about how to do that and implement programs to get us out of debt and raise up the education levels in America to provide the engineers and scientists, all technical backgrounds from Doctors to highly skilled blue collar workers, because that is the only way America is going to survive is by having the technological advantage to compete in the global marketplace and reduce it's foreign trade deficits.
Can your family of four write a check for $6,400 every year just to pay this interest. In 10 years, will you be able to write a check for $11,800 every year?
For most the obvious answer is NO!
Why did I select the subject title "The National Debt Is Immoral"?
Because God says so in the scriptures.
Spend some time reading the Book of Nehemiah, chapter 5. Particularly verse 10.
"I likewise, and my brethren, and my servants, might exact of them money and corn, I pray you, let us leave off this usury".
If we go to Merriam Webster online http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/usury we see that usury is interest on money lended.
an unconscionable or exorbitant rate or amount of interest; specifically : interest in excess of a legal rate charged to a borrower for the use of money
So, we see that God has a different plan for Christians and their money and the wise use of it.
Interest on the national debt is robbing everyone in our Country of their wealth.
Interest on the national debt is a form of slavery.
Encourage your children to live usury free. Help them buy, in cash, their first very small home. Then they can save their hard earned money and move to something larger and nicer once they have the cash to do so. Drive that used car until you have the cash saved to purchase a new one outright.
Hosea 4:6 writes "My people perish from a lack of knowledge".
