Will GOP Leaders Become Bob Michelized?

The 1994 election provides a beacon of hope for Republicans in Congress.  Voters in the historical mid-term election gave control of the United States House of Representatives to the Republicans for the first time in 40 years.  The last time the Republicans gained control of the House was when Dwight David Eisenhower won his overwhelming victory over Adlai Stevenson in 1952.

Senate Republicans also regained control of the Senate from 1953 to 1955, just as the Republicans in the House did.  While House Republicans were in the political wilderness for the next 40 years, President Ronald Reagan’s two landslides in 1980 and 1984 gave Republicans control of the Senate for six years.

The reason the U.S. Congress was controlled by the Democrats for most of the 40 years prior to the 1994 election can best be personified by the long-time minority  --  emphasis on minority  --  leader, Congressman Bob Michel, a very kind and genial man, but a highly ineffective leader.  Congressman Michel was perfectly content to accept crumbs from the Democrat spending feast.  If the Democrats promised a cut of $1 dollar in federal spending for every $1 tax increase  --  a highly unlikely proposal since they normally wanted more tax increases --  you can bet the spending cuts would not materialize following the tax increases because of decades of weak Republican leadership.

Great Breakthroughs in Adult Stem Cell Research

Chloe: “You saved my life”

At a National Press Club lunch in Washington D.C. yesterday  --  sponsored by the Bethesda Life Foundation which was founded by the president emeritus of the 16 million member Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee, Dr. Morris Chapman   --  Dr. Jeong-Chan Ra, a prominent scientist and president of RNL Bio, introduced his new book, The Grace of Stem Cells: A Story of Science and Faith.

This writer had the privilege of sitting next to a couple of Dr. Ra’s patients, two outstanding young people, a brother and sister, who Dr. Ra has helped with the use of adult stem cells.  Their parents, both physicians in Long Beach, CA, found Dr. Ra through a doctor friend of theirs.  The bright and articulate young woman is mentioned in Dr. Ra’s new book in Case Study #8, title “Chloe Can Hear Again.”  At age 17, she had total deafness in left ear and hearing loss in right ear.  After receiving conventional treatment (steroids), she received three intravenous injections of stem cells over 15 days and had hearing restored to 50% in her left ear and 90% in her right ear.  At yesterday’s lunch, she seemed to have her full hearing restored.

Big Bird & the 47% must give up their wasteful hand-outs

Conservatives were delighted with Governor Mitt Romney’s declaration to presidential debate moderator Jim Lehrer on Wednesday night that “I’m sorry, Jim, I’m going to stop the subsidy to PBS. I’m going to stop other things. I like PBS. I love Big Bird. Actually, I like you too. But I’m not going to keep on spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay for us.”  Mr. Lehrer stepped down as anchor of the PBS Newshour on June 6, 2011.

Romney went on to tell Lehrer and Barack Obama  --  who increased the national debt by $5 trillion in under 4 years to an eye-popping $16 trillion  --   and the vast audience watching on television and listening on the radio/Internet that he will cut all kinds of things that are wasteful and which cannot be justified with loans from the Chinese.  After all, subsidies to Big Bird  --  part of the billions of dollars in handouts given to the Public Broadcasting System (PBS)/Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) over the past decades  --  are just the tip of the iceberg of government waste.

U.S. to Illinois: “Drop Dead”

On October 30, 1975, the “New York Daily News” had a headline in 3 inch bold print over a photograph of President Gerald R. Ford blaring: “FORD TO CITY:  DROP DEAD.”   That headline became one of the most famous political headlines in American history.  It encouraged the weak and discouraged conservative movement demoralized after several years of big spending by the nearly-impeached President Richard Nixon during his disastrous time in office.  President Ford had given a speech the day before the attention-getting newspaper headline in which he denied federal assistance in order to spare the big-spending New York City from bankruptcy.

Ironically, the RINO (Republican in Name Only) president, Gerald R. Ford, blamed the headline  --  which had cheered the conservative movement  --  for his losing the presidency to Jimmy Carter the next year after barely losing New York’s electoral votes.  Ford protested that he never said those words “drop dead.”  Ford whined years later, “It more than annoyed me because it wasn’t accurate.  It was very unfair.”

France moves backward; U.S.A. seems to be following

Just when you thought that some of the European countries were gaining some economic commonsense and rejecting the disastrous path which bankrupted Greece took  --  with attempts to balance their budgets and cutting some of their bloated government programs  --  one of the major European nations went even further to the left this past weekend.  Incredibly, French voters elected the Socialist Party leader, Francois Hollande, as their president over the “conservative” President Nicolas Sarkozy who broke many of his campaign promises made five years ago when he was campaigning for president.

After his victory on Sunday, the socialist Hollande actually promised that he would institute far more government spending programs to turn the French economy around and increase taxes on  --  altogether now  --  “the wealthy.”  Hmm.  Sound familiar?  Barack Obama instituted a whopping one trillion (with interest) dollar spending program shortly after he was inaugurated and then rammed through Congress:  the multi-trillion dollar ObamaCare.  Of course, Obama’s trillion dollar “stimulus” was an abject failure just as French president-elect Hollande’s socialist programs will be.

Obama’s practicing double-standards

For a president, who as candidate promised to heal racial divisions and bring the country back together, Barack Obama sure is going out of his way to sow civil unrest in America.  Indeed, Obama is practicing racial double-standards.

After Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot in Arizona early last year, Obama said, “At a time when our discourse has become so sharply polarized, at a time when we are far too eager to lay blame for all that ails the world at the feet of those who think differently than we do, it’s important for us to pause for a moment and make sure that we are talking with each other in a way that heals, not a way that wounds.”

Wow!  Obama literally meant pause for “a moment.”  Since Labor Day last year when Obama’s reelection campaign began, he has been dividing races against each other; income classes against each other; and sowing seeds of division every which way he can, all in the name of his re-election.

GOP President tells Israel P.M. that he’ll “bomb Syria to kingdom come after my last election”

What a media firestorm that would be.

In the spring of 2004, President George W. Bush was unknowingly caught by an open microphone telling the Israeli Prime Minister in a private meeting that if Israel would hold off on bombing Syria’s nuclear weapons facility, the United States would “bomb Syria to Kingdom come right after my last election” that November.  A lengthy firestorm of protest came from the John Kerry presidential campaign and the liberal media supporting Kerry.

That did not happen.

However, in real life this week at the Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, Korea, Barack Obama was caught conspiring with the Russian president, Dmitry Medvedev  --  not knowing that there was a live microphone recording their each and every word.  President Medvedev agreed to transmit Obama’s message to the newly-elected Russian president, Vladimir Putin.

Tea Party Should Support the Ryan Budget

Since the new federal budget was introduced this week by the young conservative chairman of the House of Representatives Budget Committee, Congressman Paul D. Ryan, Republican from Wisconsin, there has been a lot of discussion in conservative circles  --  especially amongst Tea Party supporters  --  on whether or not the Ryan budget is conservative enough and balances the budget fast enough.

The fact that the Ryan budget would take between 25 and 30 years to balance the gargantuan federal budget gave this author  --  who, when a congressional chief of staff, saw this rising Republican star when he was a very young snot-nosed legislative aide to Congressman (now governor) Sam Brownback, R-KS, and who was highly impressed with Paul Ryan from the beginning   --  some pause.

Obama Abusing U.S. Navy Yet Again

This writer, a former Navy enlisted man, West Point graduate, and Vietnam War veteran, wrote on Christian Coalition of America’s website on May 31, 2011, that “Obama Dishonors Navy Ship-naming.”  It is hard to believe that after the uproar one year ago, Barack Obama is yet again using Navy ship-naming to help him in his reelection campaign.  Obama’s and his lapdog Navy Secretary Ray Mabus’ disrespect for the United States military apparently know no bounds.

Last week, “the Washington Times” had an editorial entitled “Obama hijacks the Navy; Administration’s ship-naming grows overtly political.”  That editorial follows a “Times” editorial on December 7, 2011  -- the 70th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack  --  entitled “The USS Karl Marx, Leftists run wild politicizing Navy ship names.”

The ever-increasing politically-correct Navy actually named a ship for a radical union leader named Cesar Chavez, Democrat from California, a leading socialist in America’s union ranks.  Then a ship was named for the civil rights activist, Medgar Evers, Democrat from Mississippi.

One of the most egregious ship-naming fiascos by Barack Obama’s administration was a ship named for the thoroughly disgraced Congressman, John P. Murtha, Democrat from Pennsylvania, who was being investigated by the FBI for possible ethics violations.  Congressional watchdog groups accused Murtha of directing appropriations towards organizations connected with the late Congressman.

Obama: America’s First Dictator?

Who needs a United States Congress or a United States Constitution when you are Barack Obama?  He has now assumed near-dictatorial powers such as trampling on the constitutional and religious freedom rights of the American people; signing into law unconstitutional legislation; making illegal “recess” appointments to his administration; dictating unconstitutional policy through executive action when he cannot get Congress to pass his socialist agenda; and on and on.

Most recently, Obama has tread upon the religious freedom rights guaranteed to the American people by the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights in the United States Constitution by demanding that religious institutions provide “free” abortifacient drugs, etc. to their employees in their health care plans, which Obama maintains ObamaCare gives his administration the right to do.
