Suicide Epidemic

The following is a reprint from my blog at American Agenda:

We are experiencing an epidemic which is taking young lives in this country. . . young people who, on the surface, are healthy and have long fruitful lives ahead of them. They are dieing not of disease, not accidentally, and not by some murderous lunatic. They are killing themselves.

The media reaction has been to express shock and to be supportive of family and friends and this is rightly so. However, it seems to me that it is time that someone spoke up with a dispassionate voice of reason. I realize that by doing so, I am going to be despised and have the most unkind words hurled at me. So be it. Somebody has to say this.

When any person commits suicide, their loved ones need compassion. They have been dealt a devastating blow and will live with the trauma for the rest of their lives. My heart truly goes out to them. read more »

Two Versions of History

The following is a reprint of an article from my blog at AmericanAgenda :

Imagine the year is 2045. The history books have all been rewritten and your grandchild has just brought her books home for a new school year. As you begin to examine her history book, it falls open to the new narrative of the events of the early twenty first century.

Since history is written by the victors, here are two possible versions of what you might see:

VERSION 1

In the first decade of the twenty first century, the United States was dangerously close to being completely taken over by communism. The bloodless coup which had been envisioned by the Soviet Union during the cold war was well underway, having taken on a life of its own. The communist left wing held majorities in both houses of congress. They had control of the executive branch and held nearly half of the seats on the supreme court.

Their power to sway public opinion was cemented by support from approximately 95 percent of the media. All television networks except one acted as propagandists for the left, as did the overwhelming majority of newspapers and magazines. Even the movies being spit out by Hollywood carried the communist agenda embedded deeply in their story lines. read more »

Ad Hominem Du Jour

The following is a reprint from my blog at American Agenda

Our basic form of public policy making is, or at least has been, public debate. The free exchange of ideas is the very basis of our constitutional right to free speech. And debate is defined by rules . . . the rules of logic. There are many tactics which are traditionally considered poor form because they present invalid and sometimes misleading arguments. The most common of these invalid arguments is called the “ad hominem”

Literally, “ad hominem” means “to the man.” The technique is to attack the opponent rather than his argument.  If the one side were to say that government spending will not stimulate the economy, his opponent would say, “You’re an idiot.” That is an ad hominem. It contributes nothing to the discussion but is sometimes an effective way of silencing those with whom you disagree. read more »

Do Not Burn Korans

In my last blog post, I made a reference to burning copies of the Koran. I used that as an example of a terrible way to exercise your constitutional rights. Then today, I learn that there is a church planning to do just that.. . .burn copies of the Koran.

I cannot express how deeply this saddens me. It was never my intention to inspire anyone to do such a hateful act. If you are a member of this church, I beg you do not do this.

Christ told us to love our enemies . . . to pray for them. . .to turn the other cheek even when they persecute us and shamefully misuse us. He never taught that we should retaliate in kind.

One might expect this kind of retaliation from non-Christians, but we are to be different. It is only when we show people the love of Christ that we prove to the world that being a Christian has merit. We have something that they do not have. We have the love of God and are called to share that love with them.

Conversely, if we show them that we are no different than them, we validate their (low) opinions of us.

General Petraeus is right. This act will serve to further inflame the muslims against whom our soldiers are doing battle. And not only will our troops suffer, but our own national security will be jeopardized. You have to know that there are terrorists here within our borders who are just waiting for something like this to justify more attacks against the civilian populace.

If it serves your hunger for vengeance, consider the words of Paul who said in Romans 12:20 ff read more »

Cordoba Mosque

The following is a reprint from my blog AmericanAgenda:

We have intentionally kept away from the issue of the proposed ground zero mosque because it was clear that the majority of people in the United States opposed it and that made our opinion redundant. But Mr. Obama has persisted in trying to make this a religious freedom issue and it seems that someone needs to give a valid argument on the other side.

Obama and his left wing supporters insist that the imam should build the proposed Cordoba mosque because they have a constitutional right to do so. That is the whole of their argument. But that line of thinking flees in the face of logical thinking. It is ludicrous to propose that  a person or entity should do absolutely anything which the constitution permits. For instance, I would be on absolutely solid constitutional ground if I were to haul a truck load of copies of the Koran to the city dump and invite all the muslims in my town to watch as I burned them. But that would be neither rational nor advisable. It would be extremely offensive. read more »

Twenty Six Billion Unnecessary Dollars

The following is a reprint from my blog, American Agenda

During Obama's sales campaign for the ever-popular (cough) stimulus package, he told us over and over ad nauseum that we needed seven hundred eighty seven billion dollars so that teachers and police officers throughout the country could keep their jobs. He said it at least five times. Remember that - part of the central purpose for the economic stimulus was for teachers and police officers.

To date, over half of that money remains unspent. Something in the neighborhood of $421 billion dollars of the stimulus money is still sitting in government coffers waiting to go stimulate something. If you step into the treasury, you can hear the money drumming its fingers on the table ... impatiently waiting for some bureaucrat to give it a push out into the economy. That was FOUR HUNDRED TWENTY ONE BILLION DOLLARS.

In a completely unrelated story (roll of the eyes), Nancy Pelosi,  Democratic leader in the House of Representatives is calling congress back from their summer break. The reason - to have them vote for $26 billion dollars which she says is needed so that teachers and police officers can keep their jobs.

Now, maybe my logic circuits are getting old, but it seems to me if you have $421 billion already set aside for that very purpose, you do not need to appropriate another $26 billion. read more »

Communist Party Supports Obama

The Communist Party USA had a convention back in May of this year, according to their web-site cpusa.org. In their "Call for United Action" they said this about Mr. Obama:

"This is a time of transition and renewal. The election of President Barack Obama and ending Republican majority rule in the House  and Senate has opened many padlocked doors. The long nightmare of right-wing misrule could be coming to an end. Our nation's political landscape is changing. The possibilities for transformative, progressive changes are enormous."

They also commented on his last state of the union address, using glowing phrases and lavish praise. Their only criticism of Obama is that he isn't moving quickly enough to enact their communist agenda. Note that they are not saying that he is not enacting communist policies . . . just that it is not going as quickly as they would like. They entitled their report "Obama State of the Union: He got the ball rolling". And that ball is red with a hammer and sickle on it.

This same big red ball is the one which murdered millions more than Hitler in Stalin's Soviet Union . . . and millions again in Mao's China. And have I forgotten Pol Pot's Laos. And how about Castro's Cuba. That is the big red ball which Obama put into motion in the United States of America, according to the Communist Party USA.

Still think we really really want Obama in the White House?

Eupemizing America

This is a reprint of an article on my blog at http://americanagenda.wordpress.com  :

In our current century, many Americans call themselves pro-choice. Of course there is that loony fringe who say they are pro-life. But did you know that way back in the dark ages . . . in the 1970?s there was a debate about abortion.

Abortion is such an ugly word. I used to fly and when we needed to end an approach prematurely, someone would say "ABORT, ABORT, ABORT!" The word means "to terminate before completion." When we speak of abortion we are speaking about terminating a human life and when that life is innocent and helpless that makes it a murder. Yes, abortion is an ugly word.

It is such an ugly word that during the great debate over abortion, the left decided that they could not win the debate if that word were used. They decided, as the left invariably does, to euphemize. Instead of saying they were pro-abortion they substituted the much nicer "pro-choice", claiming that a woman should have the right to choose. Choose what? Choose abortion. read more »
