Family Believes...All things are possible

Janeen Duke, residence of Charleston, SC suffered a brain injury on January 22, 2009 while attending a church service in Kingstree, SC. She was rushed to a hospital in Williamsburg County in an ambulance and later flown by helicopter to a hospital in Charleston, SC. She was not expected to make it during the flight according to a doctor who spoke with a family member over the telephone.

Her family was devastated when the news reached them. Since that time, Janeen has shown signs of improvement due to prayer and the grace of God because the doctors at the hospital did not expect Janeen to live past the month of January. The family thought the signs of improvement meant moving on to the next stage that would mean more improvement. Were they ever wrong. Janeen's family never expected the tragedy to take them on a trip to Oz. The occurrences have been unbelievable.

It has been a struggle with the hospital after the family discovered the hospital submitted false information to Janeen's insurance company. Once the family informed the insurance company, it has been a twister of events that has resulted Janeen remaining in the hospital without receiving rehabilitation and no longer being covered by the insurance company.

A hospital social worker who neglected to assist the family accordingly went as far as to file a complaint against the family for neglecting Janeen while she is in the hospital after the family contacted the Department of Health to complain of the social worker's neglect. The doctors and social worker insisted Janeen be sent back to her apartment with a tracheotomy having been performed, feeding tube and on a respirator even though the insurance company approved Janeen twice for skilled training in a facility. After each approval the hospital sent over a lack of information and false documentation to assure a denial.

The family presently has temporary guardianship and conservator but they have been up against all odds. Permanent guardianship and conservator is scheduled for May 6, 2009. Now that the date is near, so many road blocks are being placed to prevent an individual from getting much needed treatment. The things that have been uncovered by the family is enough to make the judicial system spin on its axis. There have been a whirlwind of unethical and immoral actions performed at the expense of someone's health and welfare.

For the record, the family does want Janeen to be resuscitated if needed. The family just found out that it was charted not to resuscitated. That is just one of the many things the family was up against; up against all odds.
