The backlash against the Obama administration's policy requiring church-affiliated organizations to...
Can we make it less meaningless?
Can we make it
less... Meaningless?
The wisest man in
history was Solomon. A great deal of Solomon's wisdom can be gleaned
from the Bible. One lesson that can be easily overlooked in what
Soloman has to say about "Vanity".
Ecclesiastes 12:8 NIV
"Meaningless!
Meaningless!" says the Teacher. "Everything is
meaningless!"
The
average time an American household spends watching TV is at an
all-time high. We spend 8 Hr. 21 Min a day watching television. 1
Also
internet usage among Americans is rapidly increasing. Most polls
state that the average internet usage by Americans to be around 2 Hr.
12 Min a day. 2
According
to a government survey the average American sleeps 8 Hr. 46 Min a
day3
The
same government reports also states. We spend:
*Estimated:
Eating and drinking – 1 Hr
Household activities - 2 Hr
Purchasing goods and services – 1 Hr
Caring for household Members – 2 Hr
*Values
rounded to the nearest whole hour
The report was very detailed and contained much more about our daily activities. You can view the report at http://www.bls.gov/news.release/atus.t08.htm
However I want to bring special attention to one aspect of the report.
Religious and spiritual activities - .13
Before you congratulate Americans for spending 13 minutes a day on Religious and Spirtual activities, The survey number is presented in percentage of an hour. That means we as a nation spend on average of 7 minutes a day on maintaining our Spiritual well being.
If you take into consideration weekly Church services. That means we spend ONE minute a day with our Spiritual activites.
One minute a day.
Matthew 6:20 NIV
But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
Its time as Americans and Christians to evaluate what is treasure and what is meaningless. Only the things of God will remain. One day our homes will collapse, Our cars returned to iron even our bodies will become dust.
Can we not learn? Can we not invest our time in the one thing that will persist. Our realtionship with God. Please give God more than a minute. Learn to incorporate God in other activites. Pray for your meals. Campaign politcally for Godly ideals. Watch Godly television. Listen to Godly music. Surf the internet in a Godly way.
