Craven-Pamlico Gains Another Victory Towards Marriage Amendment Passage in NC
The Craven-Pamlico Christian Coalition proposed a resolution in support of the North Carolina Marriage Protection Amendmen to the City of New Bern Board of Aldermen at their regular meeting recently. The Board agreed to put the issue on their agenda for their Tuesday, April 17th work session.
The resolution supporting the passage of the Marriage Amendment was PASSED by the aldermen on Tuesday evening by a vote of 5 to 2.
The issue was discussed at the beginning of their work session but not voted on until 9:30 PM. There were equal numbers of supporters and opponents of the resolution in the audience. Since three hours had lapsed between the discussion and the vote, very few citizens were in the audience at the time the vote was taken. However, Jerry Schill, Co-Chair of the Craven-Pamlico Christian Coalition stayed until the end see the passage of the resolution.
The tally of the vote in New Bern was as follows: 3 Republicans and 2 Democrats voted in favor of; 1 Republican and 1 Democrat voted against.
Interestingly, the Mayor and Mayor pro-tem voted against the resolution and said they would refuse to sign it. The City attorney said he'll have to sort this administrative issue out later.
